Ok guys, her goes. I have been corrisponding with a Russian girl. She contacted me through Yahoo personals. I did a google search for her IP address and came up with your site. It gave me a message posted by another guy, and I could almost quote his letter. His letter was posted on 1/25/04. In fact, if it is ok, I will quote his letter.

Ok here it goes, I have been talking to a woman in russia that i meet from one of them dating sites. I have heard alot about scams "russian woman scamming on the guys in the USA and she did ask for (money for a plane and visa ect..) so i did some checking to see what was going on. So she writes me some letters saying shes writing from one of them coffee shops with the computers in them. So i figure i could at least trace it to the coffee shop ( the town ) and in most cases this would be the case but when i trace the e-mail it's in or around moscow and she said she live in omsk russia (about 3000 miles from moscow)!
Now im not sure if it's is moscow or around it, maybe one of the citys next to it? It don't say and i want to know for sure the city the ip is at. I checked and couldn't find much about it.

Now i just did a check and its giving me an error but it still pionts to somewhere by moscow. I'll post the new ip when i get another letter.

Thanks in advance you guys

Thorlord

This one says she is writing from her bosses computer in a bar in Kazan, Russia. Although the last letter supposedly came from Moscow. The Kazan IP address was 1 digit off from the Moscow IP address.
The Moscow IP address is 194.x.23.121
The Kazan address is 194.x.23.122
I have already sent the money for the visa. She says that she has gone to moscow to obtain the visa, and has been told she can't get it without a round trip airline ticket. Let me quote that letter also.
Good afternoon mine dear and loved Roger
It is very unpleasant to me to speak you this news, but to me have
rejected my application on issue of visa.
It is valid very bad news.... All over again in embassy all went well,
until then, when to me have told, that I have showed tickets, I have
answered them, that at me they are not present... They have destroyed
all my documents and have told me, that will not give out the visa
until then while I shall not show them return tickets. Return tickets
are necessary for the proof of that I independently can return to
Russia as to me have told, " to us tramps in USA " they are not
necessary for me have told, that will give out the visa when I shall
bring tickets. They gave me the address of airline British Airways as
they have assured me, this most safe airline and it will be the best
to buy tickets there.
Later we with my girlfriend at whom I have stopped in Moscow have gone
to office of this airline, I have learned, that cost of tickets up to
in one party will make 803 dollars, to me have told, that if will take
return tickets the discount at a rate of 5 % is given, it turns out
that 803+803=1606 dollars and will subtract 5 % these are 80 dollars
that will make 1526 dollars, but still it is necessary to add to this
sum of 10 % from cost for registration of tickets and meal, it will
turn out 1679 dollars, is the cheapest tickets of an economic class,
is cheaper a way to arrive to you I is not present. Still to me have
told, that I should buy tickets and in Russia... Dear, I do not know
that to me to do, I am simply broken off on pieces, I am ready to go
on foot in USA if it was possible, but I so to you have become
attached, that simply can not live without you and I shall do
everything, that in my forces.
Dear, I of you shall ask last request about which I of you I shall ask
in general, you will ask the rest me, I shall ask to help me with
arrival to you, I understand, that it is huge money, was the income
mine for 16 months, but these prices for tickets only on very rich
people. And I of you ask to help me, your loved kitten. Money I think,
that it will be necessary to cable through Western Union, the address:

dear, you my last hope also is last request to you... I hope, that you
understand me, you mine love and I can not live without you! At us
with you still all ahead, we a single whole. Because we like each other.

Your eternal love (name removed)

I want to believe this girl, but I have a deep down feeling that I am being scammed.
Can anyone give me some advice, or info?
Thanks.
Roger

You NEVER, EVER send money to a "russian girl" without talking to her on the phone and having her home address.

There's also a service in almost any Russian city (certainly in Moscow, and likely oin Kazan) where you send flowers to her, and they take her picture "on delivery" and send this picture back to you. This is so that you know it is not a bold fat guy.

I would bet $100 that you are being scammed.

Thanks you guys. I foreworded aleksl
Message to her. She did call me one time. At 4:00 AM my time. I wasn't very awake and didn't ask the questions I had. I have asked for her home address and asked to have her send me real mail, but no response. I told her I would like to do the flower thing, and that I think this is happening to fast. I still need more info. I told her that it is my feeling that the Russian Embassy would need to have my info as her sponser. I don't know if that is correct or not, but it seems logical. Anyway, Patric, sadly I would have to agree with you. I am just about ready to bet 2000.00 dollars that it isn't a scam. Most likely a losing bet.
Thanks.

> I am just about ready to bet 2000.00

you have many avenues available to use 2000 dollars that won't leave you bitter, depressed or humiliated.
If however that is what you prefer, I can find someone to humilate you for a mere 1,000, leaving you 1,000 better off than you would be if you go forward with your bet. :)

There was a very similar post some time ago. Don't know how that one worked out although I'm not exactly optimistic ;)

The similarity between the two would be a big warning sign for me.

come to london mate,

we are full of girls from: russia, ukraine, latvia etc.

they mostly work as waitresses and usually are beautiful & decent & friendly

the plane tickets are only half that price from here because they are already half way to america compared to moscow :)!

These types of scams are called "advance fee fraud", the victim pays in advance of receiving services.

The Nigerians: "I will transfer $XX million dollars to you, but I just need $X,000 dollars to bribe a bank official", or whatever.

Street Hustlers: "Give me the money and wait around the corner, I'll meet you there in a few minutes."

To me this smacks of the same scam. She needs $X for a visa. She needs $Y for a ticket. When you send this next set of funds, I wouldn't be surprised if there is another set back and more money required.

Thanks again guys.
Yes I think I am being scammed. I am very sorry to say. This girl has me loving her very much. If it is a scam, she does her job very well. I am going to call British Airways, and see if it is possible to buy tickets that can only be redeemed from this side if not used. What I am going to try to ask for is tickets that are no good unless used by the person they are addressed to.
I am feeling pretty foolish already.

Oh man, I am not the same person. The guy Thorlord, posted the first message. I would really like to talk to him. benevolent001, please believe me I just found this site this morning. But if you have some input that will help, please do.
I just got off the phone with British Airways. I am imformed that if I buy the tickets from this end, With a visa or mastercard, they are only refundable to me. So if it turns out to be a scam, the tickets will be no good to her. I need the travel dates from her. I am waiting for a reply from her with this news. I'll let you guys know when I hear back from this beauty.
Thanks again.

I have bad vibes about this.
If the letter you have is similar to the one you quote, then it makes no sense...
She's asking for extra money for food on the plane?
British Airways?
It's all included.

British Airways?
Simply to help spread the confusion around - let's involve a carrier from another country.

The reason that scams work is that people believe them, despite that nagging feeling deep down inside.

Please read the posts here - there's a large number of people telling you that you're about to do something stupid.
We'd really rather not watch you do it, but having asked for our advice, it seems churlish not to at least challenge the tide of opposition coming your way.

Life is too short to spend it looking back with a real sense of regret.
Don't fall for this - it's colder and more calculating than you ever realise...

Thank you DerekH. Bad vibes, that is putting it mildly. I have a little more info for you guys. Oh,DerekH, when I called British Airways, they told me about the extra charge for the meal, so that part IS TRUE. It is a 21 hour flight. Moscow to London Heathrow, then from London to Seattle. One meal in 21 hours? I think I would be a little hungry.
I think it was Monday night, I received a note from another Russian "girl" So, hell I played along. I wrote back to her and asked for a picture. The letter I got back was almost identical to the first letter I got from Ekaterina. I mean, change the names, put in a picture of a different girl, and you have another con rolling. So that did it for me.
I don't mean to get out of context here, but I didn't tell you guys everything yet. After I spoke to British Airways, I wrote to her and told her that I would buy the tickets from this side. The airline said that they would email me confermation, and then I could forward it to her. They told me that the embassy would approve that as proof of tickets. No response. I sent a couple more emails just asking what was happening and why she hadn't written. Now today when I get home from work, I find mail from her. It is the same letter she sent to me when she told me that they wouldn't give her the visa without having proof of already having the airline tickets. I mean exactly the same letter. So this con person, seems to have a stack of letters to send out in a certian order. They are probably doing it to lots of guys. I am going to write a letter to her or him, whoever is doing this tonight. I don't think I had better post it here, because there is going to be a lot of words that some of you might not like to read.
Anyway, thanks for the input you guys.
Maybe I WILL go to London and look for a girl there. lol.
Thanks again.
Oh if you should like to see the letter I am planning to write. Just say it's ok, and I will post it.

One more thing I forgot to tell you guys. She called this morning at 4:00 AM my time again. I couldn't get mt ass out of bed in time to catch it, but she left a voice mail. I could only understand about half of it. She spoke really quickly. Like she was reading it. She told me she needed my help and that she loves me very much.
I am setting here shaking my head. I guess it is like the saying. "If it is too good to be true, it probably is."

Sorry to hear your story. Ifriend of my family once asked for advice. He was deep in falling for a Nigerian scam. He had dumped several 10s of 1000s of dollars in it, most of his savings, and never asked for advice because he wwanted to keep it secret. When we explained to him about the scams and showed him all teh form letters and official warnings, he listened, sort of. But some how he was still hoping it was real and still trying to make it work. He was too deep into it to let go. It's very similar to gambling, very dangerous.

Always be careful with interpersonal stuff on the net.

I do feel pretty foolish

Not as foolish as you might have felt had you gone further.

Anyway, you've been open and honest with everyone here, and I hope we've been open and honest back, and that's what makes this resource so valuable - there's so many people who read it.

And I don't think you should feel foolish if others haven't been open and honest with you, I think you should feel, as many of us do, terribly sad that we have to be so sceptical and defensive.

Now if you want one piece of advice from an old lag like me (and I'm in my fifties), it's this - romance doesn't come when you look for it, it comes when you don't.

Right now, you need to write a few pages of website, on some completely different topic. That's what we're here for, and right now you need to be creative!

Thanks again,DerekH. Yeah but it is fun to look for romance. lol. The new girl, that is sending the form letters. the same letters that Ekaterina sent, just change the names and pictures and send it. Anyway, I am playing with her. I am cutting and pasting, changing the names and sending the same letters I sent back to Ekaterina. Two can play that game.
I wrote a letter last night and sent it to Ekaterina's mail address. I addressed it to the person behind the scam. I told him or her, which ever what I thought of the deal. I was not nice about it at all. It's not the money I feel badly about. Crap, I blow money on stuff I don't need all the time. It is the principle of the whole thing. I wish there was a way to get my story to all the guys they are doing this to.
Anyway, thank you very much for all the good advice.

Ladfnda,

It's great you did not sent them any money.
If you are serious, use a reputable marriage agency. Do not be a macho who find women in the "right way".

It does not matter if these "girls" real or not. What kind of girl you wanna invite if you never saw her? And what kind of girl would go to USa to some guy she never met? Both of you would be crazy.

One more: if you ever get "romantic" with a real woman this way, most likely she won't get visa anyway. The US embassy will look at her and you like smartasses trying to scam them in order to get her illegaly into USA.

In order for her to get visa you must fill a bunch of papers and provide proof about your intentions. If you show them these emails, they'll laugh at you.

So, what the point of all this romantic activity? You'll get a better return on your investement calling 1-900 numbers:-)) where you get what you pay for:-)))

Well, think about it this way. It's not a "her." It's very likely a "him" with girlfriends to be voices if needed.

I mentioned this to a guy I know who's married to a Ukrainian woman, a very street-smart Ukrainian woman, who says this is a kind of cottage industry where she comes from, and that it used to be done through newspapers and mail but is much easier to do now on the internet.

She also says to mention that nobody needs to cash in those tickets to profit from them. The black market is the "refund agency" and bribed travel officials and smugglers are often the final users of the tickets.

CBS News had a piece about this. They called it a "Boris and Natasha" scam. You think you are talking to Natasha, but you are getting fleeced by Boris.
