This guy writes great columns for FORTUNE. His latest looks at YAHOO!

home page...sometimes takes 30 seconds...used to take less than 10

...Google searches are better and faster.....[doesn't seem to make the connection between YAHOO! web pages and Google?]

....Yahoo Mail has become dysfunctional.....

....Yahoo hasn't been treating users with class recently.....

Absolutely. Yahoo's strategy I thought was to make users so dependent on their services (notably the synergy between them - eg mail, quotes, groups, news, messenger all with the one password) that inertia would prevent them from jumping ship when reasonable subsription rates were introduced for key services bit by bit.

Now if my assumption is correct they are sabotaging their own strategy by driving people away *before* they sell them on the super duper Yahoo portal that gives you everything you want! Its a big aim to do this, but if they can it is major money. But As Alsop states, increased loading times and pop ups are destorying people's experience.. And i would add, BEFORE, Yahoo can sell them on a premium experience. Lose a regular yahoo visitor, and they lose a high potential paying customer.

I might also add that Yahoo's fractured fairytale now confirms what Im thinking..

The first dot com crash was managed by young internet "experts" who knew nothing of business. The second one if being fuelled by businessmen who know nothing about the internet.
