"Yahoo's goal for the new products remains the same as always -- to boost users and revenue from Internet queries -- and Weiner was quick to deny the changes are a direct assault on Google's market share. The new setup, however, includes a number of Google-like features, including a more tightly integrated image search and small boxed text ads on the right side of the page."
I have a call into Yahoo PR. In the meantime I'll be doing some experimenting to see if the changes are up yet. Anyone want to guess how long Google's going to continue to provide results to Yahoo?
Other things that make me go hmmm: How long before Yahoo unhooks with Overture if ever? Overture sure seems like a more direct threat with the recent acquisition of AltaVista/AlltheWeb. When does somebody pick up AskJeeves, which seems to me to be a very solid property that a lot of these search engines
could put to good use? When will search engines get a clue about RSS feeds? Is Northern Light alive or what?
Who the heck needs soap operas when you got search engines?

Yahoo will also unveil they have signed BBC from Google ahead of their Quarter reporting on Wednesday.
The new site willl feature some Inktomi technology but will still use Google algorithmic searches.
Additionally the new site will have search shortcuts along with geo specific targetting.
Plus a dedicated search page at search.yahoo.com
Yahoo are going to launch a marketing campaign as well in its attempt to regain market dominance in search.
All in all interesting times ahead.
But wait to see what they will do with the $750m raised as well.

Thanks for the quick heads_up, RBuzz!
I did see a glimps of the search results page but it seems to be displaying the old version right now - they must have been testing.
one thing I did notice is they now only have 2 sponsored listings at the top and 3 at the bottom - I did check and all the sponsored listings that I saw are from overture.

Especially the root page:
[search.yahoo.com...]
If they would only have the fortitude to leave that as the homepage, I'd use them again.
Thanks google for laying the groundwork, and thanks yahoo and ATW for following suit.
For that site they are showing the OLD page title and such from last summer - before August, 2002 to be exact. That is NOT Inktomi for that search, Ink has the current.
Added:
For that search on the prior search phrase, it's showing what Google had prior to the change last summer - exactly. Ink never had that sequence of sites for the first page. For another site I'm seeing pages that went up end of December, just like Google has them. A couple of others also.
Inktomi optimization I can live with any time - gladly. But I haven't seen any sign of Ink yet. It's a bowl of mixed nuts I'm seeing right now.

Yahoo has made some nice purchases of companies to deliver some serps so will we see the detachment of google results from Yahoo's serps?
I think Inktomi driven Yahoo results would be a disaster for many of us. They are way harder to optimize for, and usually inferior in terms of relevance.
BYW have fun in Boston! Can't make this one but will hopefully be at the next one.
Check out those dollar signs. Although that is news stories, it looks like the future serps:

Nah, just pull out the cc and head to PositionTech ;-)
I like the look and feel. From what I've observed, they are keeping Google but mixing the results around, perhaps using Ink technology?
If anyone gets through to their media department, do let us know what they're up to.
Im sticking to my original assumption that the new Y! search eill be very different from pure Google, pure Ink or even the mix of directory/external search engines (currently Google) plus some tweaks which is now.
I dont see any real evidence that they will use the current pure INK - nobody does for a start. The bought a technology more than a database. Even though the listings may be moderately similar to pure Ink when it rolls out, soon it will have *very different* results based on how they tweak the Ink algo to provide both good relevance AND advance their other businesses.
Heck I wouldnt be at all surprised if the Google rankings didnt continue to have some bearing (though not even close to the bearing they have now) on results in some areas such as checking rankings and merging in some cases.
The implication. Its good to have good rankings in pure ink already now, but going on a major SEO campaign to optimise for INK NOW is premature. The algo may change dramatically as it hits prime time.
