PR update started - Part I

My newly registered site shows PR in a couple of DCs.
For example,

216.239.53.104
216.239.53.99
while in some others I see a rollback.

Yes, some kind of PR update is happening but I think the algo has ben tweeked to NOT increase the value as in the past. What I mean is that from experience I was expecting a certain increase and got half of it. I think Google has mad it a lot more difficult to move from one value to next.

OK Now I am sure they have made it a lot more difficult to even go from PR1 to PR2. I had used the same strategy on several new sites and their PR should have gone up to PR3. It is only PR2 and they started with PR1. Last year the same strategy on new sites after the same amount of time (several months) brought them from PR0 to PR4. So PR update is going on for sure, only not as good as expected for me. So sit back and enjoy or weep, guys and gals.

hmmmm I'm don't think "GOOGLE made it more difficult". Don't forget that the PR scale is only from 0 to 10, which means that it will, naturally, be more and more difficult to increase your PR because the internet grows everyday. So the number of backlinks needed to gain +1 PR will always be higher.

My 1 month old site got a PR4 just with a single backlink. The strange thing is that the linking page too shows an updated PR4.
My guess is that this current update may not be the whole thing.

yes. Iunderstand that the internet grows every day. but PR1 is not 0-10. That is the problem. Google can make it whateever they want and we donot knw the values. PR1 could be from 0.001 to 1.0 or it could mean 0.0000000001 to 1.0 so beside the internet growing they can make it more difficult to cross from 1 to 2 by simply adjusting what it takes to cross from one value to the next.

Yep. Using the Future Rank tool you can definitely see pr update, on several datacenters now. Not sure it means a whole lot though these days.

If you have the toolbar installed how can you change data centre so that you see the latest PRs

Rich, I forget how to change the host file, but do a google search for Future Rank and you will find a site that shows you pagerank for any url on each datacenter.

For some reason I find the new PR weird, it does not seem to reflect the new popularity of websites.

I even can find an old website given a PR0, like if it was a rollback..

I think that Google is going even deeper in the sneakyness to loose our poor souls.

One thing is sure....this new visible PR value does not sound right to me at all.

I think it is about a month old. I see new pages from December that have page rank, but from January do not.

I see it all clearly now. The future PR tool that shows you all data centres is very usefull.

First impression of this update is most odd. A well established site i know just went from a 6 to a 5, likewise a number of others i know of.

I would say an old 6 is worth a 5 now with a 5 worth a 4 etc, its perhaps not as basic as that but certainly i think the range is harder to climb.

I did expect three PR6 sites i know of to move to 7s based on their backlinks yet they remain as 6.

This will be interesting - The site that fell from a 6 to a 5 that was an authority, i now understand why a directory has knocked it off the top spot in Big Daddy serps as that directory is a 6. It does look like big daddy is taking into account this PR change

I am seeing movement in the Google Directory too. I used to rank 17th in my category, I've now moved up to 12th position - very respectable given the competition.

The movements in the directory vs new PR is what I find strange. One of my sites has had a lousy PR of 1 or 2 since September (when i opted to move it from a domain with PR3).

I Google Directory, sorted by PR it has had PR4 since, and I was quite sure to get a PR4 or eve PR5 in this update. Still it lingers around 1 or 2 for most datacenters. But in Google directories I clearly see a PR4!

There has to be more to come!

Hey you guys, thanks for the mention of the G Directory PR. I didn't see any change on the .com dc I'm hitting for PR - still at PR5 for the /index.htm - but according to our main Directory listing, it looks like G might finally be giving me my PR6 back (or close to it). Nice.

i noticed that with the new DC, the toolbar is showing a lot of blogs on blogger.com with PR of 2-6 (mine included).
Previously, it was rare to see a blog with a PR of any higher than 1 ..
