Frankly 66.102.9.104 was just giving weight to age over any other factor imo. Top sites in the sectors i watch were not an authority on the subject just older.
66.102.7.104 has by far the better results, much cleaner, and a lot of issues sorted out. IMO they should ditch 66.102.9.104 and run with 66.102.7.104 in its entirety otherwise this whole exercise has been a waste of time.
Lets just say that Google do look like they are trying to fix it, but a blend is a blend - so one would hope that it would take the best bits of both ;)

Would I be correct in thinking 66.102.7.104 rank your site higher or hold less competition? :)
I think 66.102.9.104 are the better set, however both are very satisfactory.
A blend of the two... why not!
>>Lol Reseller - I am scratching around for answers myself.

Thanks. I hope you are right. Otherwise I shall start my own promotion spots of:
Listen Google .. :-)
Thanks GG, Thats what what I was thinking. You have given me hope again.
For me that "second order effect" is (or includes) a correction to whatever caused the Sept 22nd sites to go missing..
First prediction I have made. I so hope I am right.
steveb and idolw, there will be some blending of these two data centers. If you think of 66.102.9.104 as the first order effect and 66.102.7.104 as the second order effect, that won't be far off.

The age knob has been turned to high on the other set. Its age over authority, age over content where as 66.102.7.104 has a reasonable balance.
And no Pete its not because our sites rank better in
66.102.7.104 because they rank well in both but i just think 66.102.7.104 has far better results, i see no reason why some sites rank high in the other set other than some kind of weight being given to site age. Im not saying age isnt important but quality up to date content has to rate priority for a good established site over non relevent aged sites
SERPs showed at: 66.102.7.104 look much better. It is possible to see not only sites based on domains registered before 2000 but also some fresh stuff. What's most important useless adsense-targetted sites went to hell!
I give vote to 66.102.7.104
I'm the owner of one 'authority' site which is #1 in the search for its keyword (in spain, since it's a spanish web). It's been #1 for two years, and in 66.102.9.109 is still #1 but... If you search 'widget' that's what you get on the top of the serp:
"
WidgetPortal
widgetportal is a site about widgets
www.widgetportal.com
_______widget exhibition
_______widget care - widget gallery
_______more results on www.widgetportal.com >>
.
.
.
"
( _ is for space )
Let me explain it: Google has indexed and understood the navigation of my site! and it has put shortcuts to the most important parts of my web from the serps. Astonishing.
On the other hand, some other SERPS in spanish, on searches of other sectors where I'm playing too (more lucrative, in fact) are still full of spam sites, and mine have been hit hard. So... there is still work to do.
When checking my logs ... I go to the Google page where a visitor found my site I am no longer there ... Does this sound normal, or am I just having a blonde moment
There is not a fixed relation between web-address and IP for G-sites. When "www.google.com" is accessed by browser, the actual IP used will vary and--particularly at this moment, when a new algo is being rolled out--the SERPs produced will also vary, hence your experience.
Google maintains a very large number of Data Centres as redundant data (a bit like RAID on a world-scale) and the SERPs info comes from these DCs. Which specific DC will depend on your computer location and worldwide-loading demands at that moment. (Perhaps not too surprisingly, 66.102.9.104 is located at Mountain View, CA, USA; the trace to get there (from Ashburn, VA [visualroute.visualware.com]) passes through 10 other G-IPs) All these DCs need to be kept in sync--which takes time--and at a time of algo-change, like now, takes a large amount of time.
The vast amount of posts in these threads is mostly due to sad boys sitting on the dunes, watching the horizon, drinking their beers and trying to be the first to spot which chariot (DC) contains the new algo rising in all it's resplendant glory. It is a new kind of 21st-Century religion.
PS
I seem to be one of those sad boys.
They are still listing supplemental results for sites that haven't existed for 18 months, showing pages that have snippets and cache dates from 18 months ago, and listing non-www pages for sites that have had a proper redirect in place for almost a year.
Am I the only one seeing this?
