I am seeing a very big change in the serps that occurred late today. Is anyone else seeing this? All the datacenters seem to be the same.

Seems like a PR update is happening on these DCs but no change for me:

It seems us guys have been second-guessing our sites' true PR for too long now through looking at dodgy Google Directory PR bars (ever-changing in my category) and using obscure SEO tools.

When can the toolbar finally put us straight?

I'm not seeing any PR update as yet - however one of our site's home pages dropped from a PR6 to a PR5 last week.

Strangely enough this happened just before the last update... then went back to a 6.

Last week, some internal pages of my site long indexed by Google had strangely disappeared from the SERPS. Apparently my site had been hijacked. Today these pages are back again.

I am seeing last month's backlinks!

By the way ... is anyone else seeing something funky happening to the dates of the posts in this thread?

For me yesterday afternoon was a huge change. I have not had such a big change since the Fla update. And it's not a great one. The Florida one was much worse but this one is bad.

I checked the backward links of one of my competitor's site ( ranked #1 on many keywords ), google reports the number is 12,900, but actually when I check the first 100 backward link pages by searching 'link:comperitorsite', I'm stranged that there are no any backward links point to the site on these pages.
I wonder how the guy 'place' backward links on so many webpages, and how does google credit these inexistent backward links to the guy.

Those two quoted datacenters are not showing the new backlinks Im seeing - and definitely not old backlinks either as some are links that were just added two weeks ago

I've been seeing these new backlinks about once a day for a week and thought it was a data centre out of step with the rest.
Now they seem more persistent.
But I wonder if they are as stable as some suggest.

What I can't fathom is why one of my sites is top in Google.co.uk and missing completely from Google.com

Ah well!

Certain a big update is due. A real mix going on currently.

Just slightly off topic, Some pages are also updating PR.

What i think is funny about PR is that you get a high PR site like a news paper group for example PR8 say and you find its "contact us" section has a PR7.

I find it just amazing that Google can give a high PR to a "Contact us" page on a site. Its like saying we value the content of a contact us page on a news paper group site higher than the entire content of a webmasters site thats PR6 or under!

Obviously once you have a high PR almost any page you add will gain value.

Are people altering their Toolbar files again with a specific IP to see any PR changes?

yep - quite a change indeed. Our site has dropped several pages. Still the same Page Rank though.

The new number one site in our most important keyword is a link farm with a single link to an affiliate program that many vendors use.

This update bites. I have no problem moving down to sites that have good content and are relevant. This time it is different.

Agree, these centers are showing old backlinks.

This is not a new backlink update. There has been a great deal of instability/inconsistency on ALL datacenters for a while. There are two or more backlink data sets floating around.

Have no idea what so ever.

The google boys love to keep us all guessing!

I don't see any evidence of a backlink update (tracking 25 clients). They are usually updated around the first of the month.

PR updates occur about every 3 months now and last one was about Jan 1st so, unless that schedule has changed, next should be after 1st of April.

I finally had a few good backlinks going and now their gone. This was a rollback. The links are still there just not indexed again.

I saw a MAJOR google serp update earlier this evening. I am surprised that no one has mentioned it. Has anyone else seen a big change today. I am seeing the same change across all datacenters.
7:55 am on Mar 24, 2005 (gmt 0)

snowflake,

Could be more of the abnormal flux that folks have been reporting for weeks. I was way up for some phrases for about 15 minutes yesterday afternoon, then they were gone.

If you're seeing some SERPS you like, I hope they hold for you. Best of luck.

Hi Atticus,
Actually I have been seeing two different sets of results for the last two weeks where I fluctuated slightly between the two. but this update that I saw, (now yesterday) is major and unfortunately for some of my search terms that were number one and two; they have disappeared. That's why I am surprised that no one else is seeing this.

Yep - have seen a big jump in results for one of my sites - from page "noware" to page 1 - but again it could just a flux - hope it sticks :)
