I'm seeing very strange results both through the toolbar (google.com) and google.com.au. On the first page an authority site has the top 2 positions (it is usually 1 or 2) but the rest of the first page is absolute junk....wierd results like, find "keyword you searched for" at ebay or encyclopedia online etc etc. Also, no adwords are showing, just a list of off topic (mostly) text links?

Are you sure you are seeing google rather than spyware?

Google has been spidering all my sites pretty good all day yesterday and even now.

Your right Powdork...I have been effected by spyware and viruses before but i have never seen this effect before....just did the same for a search on Yahoo. If anyone has an effective program for eliminating this kind of spyware it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

We are seeing some very big swings there. On some other data centers nothing.

couple of our sites have been dropped as well, without any apparent reason and being up there for many months.

The commercial results I see on google are not worth anything, for non commercial I still find everything I need.

Getting off the topic it seems that way to me too. Now when I try to purchase through Google I experience too much trouble. I have to read to many reviews that port me away from what I’m looking for. I don't want to familiarize myself with that ditzy Froogle. Who uses it. Even though I am an Adwords advertiser to many fly-by-nighters inhabit it. Yahoo on the other is to much spam. I guess the up and comers for commerce are MSN or Ask.

Some of our searches only return around 50% of normal SERPs. Not a full set of data.

I wouldn't worry about anything on that IP to be honest.

I've seen about a 25% drop in traffic in the last few days.

Isn't it funny how people never report 'Serp Changes - all my rankings have gone up by 5-20 places'?

Almost like Google is slowly winning the war against SEO...

Well, I've seen a 15-20 percent increase after moving from #3 to #1 - something I've been trying to accomplish for 3.5 years now. The ironic thing is that the site is in escrow right now. At least i have the satisfaction of beating my competitors after all this time - even if I won't own the site anymore.

If your rankings rise you assume it is something you have done. If they fall then it's Google screwing up

Exactly. If something goes wrong, it's not my fault. If something goes right, take all the credit.

This is basic human behavior all over the world.

>If something goes right, take all the credit.

I think there are many of us who have sites that sometimes are up, sometimes down and we never touch them. We hold our hands up and wonder why. The reality is that you cannot predict the weight Google will put on anchor text one month and then perhaps 'title' the next. You just have to be pleased when they go up and patient when they go down. If they remain down for more than 3 months, then you have to consider doing something.

Apparently, 5-10 people a day who purchase from us ;-)

Well,

All I know is that some of my competitors have dropped and I can not find out why. I have analyzed them in many different ways and there is no common factor, except that they used to rank well for a long time for major keyphrases.

I had no idea what to make of my recent decline - number 3 or 4 to 9. I have three site above me with no mention of a particular phrase in their page, titles, link or backlinks. Yes I chcked it all. Actually I wanted to learn something from the expreience, but I'm left scratching my head. Two of the folks abovee me now have what I would call a link scheme going on. The other few are OK; they have the links and the content to back up their place. I have no idea what my next move is. BTW, I'm still number 2 in the other big engines.

jo1ene, when you were checking were you checking the actual page or google's cache of the page.

A few days ago, I noticed that for about 6 hours there were NO supplemental results to be seen in any of the searches that I did.

The count for one search that I do every day, suddenly dropped by about 25% after a simple "Refresh", and so I went looking to see why. All the SR listings were gone, and stayed gone for about 6 hours.

I tried lots of other searches and the SR listings were gone from those too.

Whatever it was it seems to be sticking now. I saw 2 very differnt indexes that switched back and fourth for a week. The one that sticks seems to be giving spammers more rank.

I was checking the actual page. I am very familiar with them and nothing seemed new and different. I just checked the cache on some of the questionable sites. My observations remain the same.

I am wondreing if G is using some sort of definition matching. I think I saw a post here a while back about this. Meaning my phrasee is "FUZZY widget manufacturing". I see how some of these sites may qualify as "FURRY widgeet manufacturing".

Just a stab in the dark of course.

30% traffic drop from Google and its hurting. Anything that I can do about this? What exactly is the relation between SERPS and PR. Would a higher PR have "insulated" me somehow?

twebdonny

11:18 pm on Jan 20, 2005 (gmt 0)

I am seeing changes to SERPS for some of my main terms over
the last few hours. They appear to be in flux now; although, foreign data centers appear to be holding the new
results. I don't know if this is an update, a rollback, or
a relaxation of the current filters imposed since the last update in Dec.

I saw it back and fourth for more than a month....

The site gaining rank are sites doing good SEO started about six-ten months ago: they gained several links in these 6-8 months.
