What to do during Google-update?

The best time to put new pages online is during the Google-update?

"The best time to put new pages online is during the Google Dance?

I've read that somewhere - Is that true? If yes, why?

What are the first things that you will you do when the dance starts?

Welcome to WW Total Paranoia (and 10 points for having the most appropiate username for this forum!). ;)

I hope youre right - itll be good for the legit webmaster to not be out done by spammy techniques!

I fully believe the value of the web is in information, and therefore content. If Google can even get close to perfecting an algo where decent content based are ranked where they should be, then Im a happy bunny!

ps, now youve posted there's no going back - you're a lifer now! ;)

I think Google have been making major changes this month to thier filters. Many of us will see big changes to our rankings and PR, with a lot of sites being dropped for cross linking. That is why have the delay.

What`s your reason for saying this TP? I assume that you`re only speculating? ;)

Total Paranoia, you have been smoking too much weed. Chill out! When it comes it comes and nothing you can do about it. Better be paranoid about that cross linking though;)or you are going to have a bad trip

on www, www2, and www3 a search that showed our site at 11th now shows it at 25th. Also I notice the total numbr of pages for my company name has increased a lot. Does this mean its go go go?

I ran a backlink check on CNN.com, identical results here for www, www2 and www3. If that is the case everywhere, then the update has NOT begun.

I'm seeing 657,000 backlinks to www.yahoo.com. Odd someone is seeing changes on this though.

Tonight at about 11 pm I tried a www2 search on google and got absolutely different results as on www. SO I said to me okay very good, the dance has started, and one of my sites was on position 2, which is very good. BUT: I was not able to see those results again. I tried all night , but always showing the old results.
Can somebody imagine what I ve seen?

Yah, doing something like link:www.yahoo.com or link:www.cnn.com is more reliable. I wonder if we changed the link count for Yahoo up or down by one, how many folks would be swarming over the boards in minutes. :)

Just kidding, just kidding. When is April Fools? :)

Google Guy ...

Your killing us here ...

SOmeone needs to remove my computer for several days ....that way I "have to" take a break from this google update stuff!

This last 6 weeks has been very busy for myself with lots of new pages coming out. I guess you could say I am ready to see the "fruits" of my efforts now.

Gee, Googleguy seems very active with posts in this pre-update period. Does this mean something? nothing? he's lonely?

Good one, GoogleGuy. ;) I guess since the update is later than usual this month, people are getting anxious and thinking there has been an update when there hasn't. While I know you won't say GoogleGuy exactly when the update will be, can you at least confirm this won't be a weird month like March when the update was actually a week into April?

Googleguy - can you give us any hints on when and how Google works on the update?

Do you guys only work 9-5, M-F and let the update run to completion on it's own? Or do you guys work all night, weekends if required to get the new update out?

Any insights on "how it's done" would be interesting to many on here, I'm sure. I don't think there's any harm in letting us know this? ;)

That would be hand tweaking us all into insanity!

GoogleGuy, Trick or Treat is closer. That's what has us all wondering.

<== wonders if the Plex has ever been TP'd for Halloween ;)

GoogleGuy,

Not that I would ever want to be accused of being an instigator or anything. But Google is an international company, and this board is also international, and since different countries celebrate their own versions of April Fools Day on different days, you might want to consider messing with www2 & www3 on some of those other days.

Of course this would all be in the name of helping SEOs gain some international awareness ;)

Actually, Devil's Night would be the optimal time for this. ;)

Sasquatch can you give us a sort of list so we don't have to pull out our hair wondering?

Do we win the Google mousepad if Yahoo backlinks change by one at our picked time but there is no update? I see another lawsuit on the horizon. Or maybe an angry homerun ball chasing style mob outside the plex fighting over the mousepad ;).

Powdork,

That would ruin all the fun!

Come to think of it, it might be a great way for Google to reduce their work load. All the SEOs would end up in the hospital for a few months to recover from their heart attack/stroke/nervous breakdown.

Maybe it is normal, but I imagine that I've never seen things like this:
Keyword: "handylogos"(important german keyword) on www. about 992.000 ; www2 & www3 603.000 but it is exactly the same ranking on www2 and www3.
If the amount of sites changed during the past updates usually the ranking changed too, didn't it?

I have been seeing a lot of that where www, www2 and www3 have different numbers of results listed. It does not appear to be related to the update since it has been going on and off for at least a week.

Maybe we have discovered a new disease: Googlitis

Symptoms:

Square eyes
Neck ache
Breaking out in sweats at random
Reclusiveness; skipping of social activities
Repetitive checking of important keyphrases without reason.
Irrational outbursts on the Webmaster forum
Periods of excitement followed by bouts of depression
Weight gain
Nervous twitch

Cause:

Owning a business orientated website

Cure:

Unknown. Research suggests that knowing the time of the update may alleviate some symptoms.

Heck I have had almost all those symptoms for decades. You can ask any of my assorted ex-wives. ;)

I think I am coming down with very serious case of Googlitis. I got every one those symptoms.

Also have additional symptoms such as lack of sleep due frequent mid night trips to pc for checking stats and rankings.
