Results switching: Major results changes past two days

My search results on the two keywords I check every day changed yesterday. I had been settled on www www2 and www3 for a few days, but then yesterday I moved from 26 to 18, and from 5 to 1 on two keywords.

I haven't seen others comment on changes in the past 48 hours, so I've been (pleasantly) surprised that there was movement post-crawl.

Google has been in constant movement for the last couple of cycles. I've seen some sites that have been moving so much that you can't really tell the difference between pre and post updates.

Yeah, there's been the Google Everflux Effect going on for a while. Heck, just a few minutes ago, all my "Link To" results vanished. Would be nice if I jumped when they come back. Usually the jump to the bad, though.

Hi,
I could have posted this in about 10 topics but this one was near the top.
If I understand correctly from the thread "Google Update History" it would appear that Google updates (now at least) somewhere around the 3rd week of the month.
My new site was crawled extensively by googlebot from June 27 to July 1. Does that mean it is likely possible???) it will be included in search results in the late July update?

Mark, it is very possible going by what's happened in the past; you'll have to watch for the next update to be sure. You'll see it posted here when it starts.

The last one is over - big across the board changes. There's shifting, but the next one isn't until late in the month.

GEE has been going on since last October. The big difference has been the rate and number of updates to sites. From what I've seen, it started out as only affecting the pr8's and ups. The bar for who and what gets updated has slowly been coming down this year.

If this keeps up, and the bar keeps lowering, will we'll eventually see a constant updating process?

www2 and 3 have almost never matched www for my site during this update. Right now for my top keyword phrase the descriptionon in 2 and 3 is a combination of the meta tag and the first line of content, but in www the ransom is the worst it has ever been - totally useless. :(

My 2 cents:

There are now two Google's. Daddy Google is the one who crawls the web and recalculates Page Rank once a month. The calculation of PR is done on the basis of the crawl, in effect this is true PR based on the entire www [or Googles perception of it, which is pretty much the same thing lately!].

In steps Junior Google, he is the little fella looking for the new stuff. I visualise Junior Google as being a seperate dB whose results are "injected" into the main SERP's. Google's achilles heel has always been their slow update cycle, 60 days to find and *rank* new content is simply too long on the fast moving www. Their solution, imho, is to add new sites between update cycles and guess the PR.

From my experience the temporary PR allocated new sites is simply -1 of the highest ranking page that links to the site. This will only work for new sites, if the site is established and has a PR allocated then this won't change even with a between update addition of a high PR link inwards. When Daddy Google does the PR calculation the new site will be given a real PR, this can be and usually is less than the temp PR.

There is mileage to be made with a stratagy tagetted at getting a temp PR if you believe that this will be higher than the "real" PR.

I have heard people mention in earlier threads that when adding links to new pages from "what used to be Fresh" pages, your new pages appear in Serps shortly after (and sometimes only for three days).
Sadly, I have a low PR6 "Fresh" index page for which this does not work.

Have you experienced this phenomenon been triggered from a certain base level PR?

I would guess this continous dancing would only occur for non-competitive search queries, as the new pages would have way to little referring links to rank anywhere decent?

Around June 10, I added some pages that were picked up by the "Google Jr." update guy, and they were imediately indexed. Then about a week later they vanished. They were also not included in the June dance and are still no where to be seen. around June 12 I had about 75 pages indexed. I now only show around 42. Hopefully the July dance will include all my new pages that I had done in mid-late June which total around 130.

Perhaps Google also has something like an "enforcement bot". This is the one that dishes out the PR0 penalties and suchlike. I would imagine that the algo's to pick up spamdexing/bad neighbourhood linking etc etc are fairly processor intensive sooooooo the enforcement bot probably only visits every three months or so. This would perhaps explain why dodgy sites can get away with good SERPs for a few months before being zapped AND also why it takes several months to get back in once a dodgy site has fixed itself.

Then again, perhaps I look too deeply into it:-)

I am #1 in a field of 97,900!!!!

The page itself has only a PR of 3 but it's still listed as #1.

NFFC, that doesn't sound far off from the PFI engines injecting pages as they're included. If that's in place, it plants a seed of suspicion of the possibility of Google maybe going the PFI route sooner or later.

I wouldn't read anything into it, it's the only way they can try and freshen up the index. It takes a month to crawl the web and recalculate PR, it will probably always take that long, they had to do something as they where losing the freshness battle. Even now AV and Fast are adding and updating quicker, it's nice to see Google have a fight on their hands.

This is absolutely great!! I've become #1 en #2 on my main keywords! This is so good to see and a lot of the individual pages have been indexed too! Well this "constant update" is working fine for me.

Well here's my experience, don't know if this will help but it does perplex me. My website is exactly 9 weeks old, having begun (at the new domain) on April 27, 2002. My index page now has a PageRank of 3. It is the "homepage" listed in my profile if you want to check that. Now here's the perplexing part, when I check the link:mysite I get 0 results. That is what I expect... Googlebot has visited my site many times, but how to explain the PageRank of 3? Oddest part is that I don't really need or want traffic just yet, though I have plenty of bandwidth to spare so it won't bother me if it does materialize, I get about 20 pageviews a day from Google now.

Ok thanks. But the part that puzzles me is how in 9 weeks enough people (unknown to me) linked to my site to give me a PageRank of 3... Not only did they find my site and link to it, but then Google found them--all without my even trying. Seems weird.

I have been seeing sites with updated serp listings a couple times a week (title, ransom note etc.) but not a ranking change. That would fit into the baby google theory.

You need a PR of 4 or higher for the link command to show links.

I still see different result for search some of my visitors have made, if I go back to where they did the search my site is gone but if I look at www3 its there.

A update usualy takes about a week max 2 weeks.

I'm now seeing some change in PR for several sites. Nothing has changed in most of these sites, not even the number of links showing up in Google.
