Google Backlinks Update

Backlinks Reporting, Major shift in crawling and SERPs

Today I observed a major change in traffic from Google, so I decided to investigate.

Anyone else see the backlinks reported by Google has changed significantly? Mine jumped by over 1000%, it now seems to be reporting all backlinks regardless or PR.

Pages indexed: I have some huge sites, some of which I had given up on being fully indexed in my lifetime. But, as of today I see a huge number of pages indexed at Google that seem to have occurred very recently. On checking server logs it appears Googlebot has been living at these domains and swallowing as fast as possible.....never seen this rate of indexing before. Anyone else see a huge number of new pages crawled in the last few days?

SERPs: I see some very significant changes in SERPs recently. Some good, some bad, but a definate change in algo...anyone else see this?

There are pr updates all over. domain.com has a different pr than www.domain.com for many sites where they all had same pr upto 2 days ago.
examples:
demicron.com (wirefusion)
perl.com
I mention perl because it was the only site that I have seen in about 20 years on the net that was serving different documents for domain.com and www.domain.com. But even they have stopped. It is an accepted stantard by the web comunity:
www.domain.com = domain.com. Why SEs don't program it into their codes?

i think than domain.com or www.domain.com should be removed due to duplicate content..

google should count only the url that has more backlinks and hide completely the other one..

about pr updates.. anyone have seen some changes?
seem than google has finished his dance to me.. but nothing changed..

Well, almost all last month tons of server problems...whole site went down, my whole new design gone...Page rank site of 4 gone down to 0 then..

Now, surprisingly on my page that says the site is down and gives a link to the forums, the page rank went up to a 5...so that cheered me up a lot :) Unfortunately, restoring content (decent amount of it) is still being done so I may have to wait till another index to have all the new pages indexed unfortunately...

However, I am noticing some weird things...pages that don't even exsist still have page rank, yet it has been almost a month...still have that pagerank...kind of odd eh?

I still think why do google has to do this, If they dont want to show backlinks properly they can keep it for them selves, But why do they show some crap set of links, People like us can understand the problems and we have many other ways to track links, But for some amatuer SEOs/webmasters and Site owners it is going to be one big confusion. If google wants to sit behind the curtain and laugh at many of those confused people go ahead,
All I would like to say to google is dont treat site owners/webmasters/SEOs as some stupid people,
People just forget the backlink(link:) command in google and go ahead with life, Learn other ways to track links, Google doesnt like us seeing all the backlinks,

i think than the confusion on the lastest pr/bl upgrades is caused by a changing in the google algo...

i hope than a pr upgrade will be done soon.. today or this week..

My 2.5 month old site has moved from 3 backlinks to 11 about a month ago to 212 now. Still PR4 and hoping for a boost ;)

I see a lot of people commenting on backlink changes, which I have noticed as well. The problem I'm having is associating what Google displays as backlinks with any change in serps.

I see no major change in serps for the keywords I watch, only minor fluctuations which have been occurring reguarly for the past 6 mos.

Regardless of that observation, I consider Google's backlink reporting insignificant. As far as I can remember they have never been accurate (only showing a small percentage of backlinks that actually exist), and now that they show sites of all PR, they are even more insignificant.

My backlinks now show dmoz clones, which were never present before, as well as sites with no PR at all. This leads me to believe that backlinks displayed by Google are now irrelevant.

I would like to know others' opinion on this.

Backlinks update? Nah. This was just Google serving up a different batch of non-information to play with the heads of the obsessed.

Only one of my sites got a PR update yesterday, but its a great start. The home page stayed at PR4 but almost all the internals went PR4 from PR3.

Have a few new pages only 1 month old that went from PR0 to PR3.

Other sites still unchanged.

i'm looking all know google ips (about 20) with allinurl command..

usually all server have his value of allinurl.. but now seem than they are updating..
now there is 14 servers with the same results.. sound like an update of the servers...

Actually, the last PR update was on June 22nd.

We'll probably end up waiting more than two months for a PR update!

Maybe, but there are a lot of sites gone for PR0 to a PR+, and sites gone from PR+ to PR0. Maybe they are just sorting out some of the problems they have had (many sites home pages were PR0 for no reason last update, but internal pages had PR).

I am seeing some major changes in the SERP's today. Still trying to make sense of what I'm seeing, but I'm not sure I like it.

Certainly strange looking at backlinks and seeing PR 0 pages showing up, while PR 5 and 6 pages don't. Oh well...

My 2 months old site went from zero back links to 149 but PR remains the same (PR0). My other site went from 106 back links to 100 although it shows 10,000+ back links in yahoo. the site is 2 years old with PR5 unchanged. no changers to my other sites.

yes.. us too. older, established site went to PR0 on home page (interior pages unchanged) last PR update now It Is Back to where is was before.

a correction has definitely occured but no update on other sites noted here.

Ranking increase noted for all our sites with BALANCED IBL's (lots of little guys balanced with big guys) and some minor drops for those with only larger PR IBL's.

Starting new grass-roots, low level linking campaigns for those sites.

interesting behavior but I guess we already knew this was needed...

now getting to those things WE KNEW we should have done :-D

I just noticed that I have a new directory listing in google, a mirror from ODP. This has happened within the last week. A slight increase in backlinks and a significant increase in pages indexed. No pr change..

Am I the only one seeing a new directory listing?

My website first appeared in DMOZ in July. First appeared in google directory on August 9th.
