Google Backlinks Update

Backlinks Reporting, Major shift in crawling and SERPs

Today I observed a major change in traffic from Google, so I decided to investigate.

Anyone else see the backlinks reported by Google has changed significantly? Mine jumped by over 1000%, it now seems to be reporting all backlinks regardless or PR.

Pages indexed: I have some huge sites, some of which I had given up on being fully indexed in my lifetime. But, as of today I see a huge number of pages indexed at Google that seem to have occurred very recently. On checking server logs it appears Googlebot has been living at these domains and swallowing as fast as possible.....never seen this rate of indexing before. Anyone else see a huge number of new pages crawled in the last few days?

SERPs: I see some very significant changes in SERPs recently. Some good, some bad, but a definate change in algo...anyone else see this?

I'm only seeing backlink changes, would be very interested in knowing which datacenters people are seeing PR updates on?

Once again a push up in links, but mostly crap links like from database, directorys other SE, alot links from sites that are made in php asp and those easy making sites.

I dont get it are there new mission realy to mess up the results, so people click there ads instead.

the last 6-7 month have not been good for Google, I realy miss the good results

I see more backlinks / backlinks updated on sites hosted in the US with both UK tld and US tld. I've also noticed a lot of more spammish backlinks have gone from listings, whether these were blacklisted before the update and only now kicked in, I don't know.

Does anyone keep up to date with their PR in the Google Directory?

My website established in Feb 2004, has never had PR in the directory. It had a listing, but no PR whatsoever next to it in the directory. On the toolbar, it has had PR of 6-7.

I checked this a few weeks ago and it was white, I checked it then - and it now shows PR.

So this could have happened anytime in the last few weeks - but I guess they have updated the PR in the directory at some stage?

I think the directory PR is still from the PR updat a couple of months ago! May be wrong though!

Just hope that there is one on the way tonight!

Confirmed: backlinks updated. The spanish language directory has updated its PageRank Order, too.

G Directory PR has updated, and re-sorted based on PR, but is incorrect at this time. PR of 1 was assigned in the directory to my site, in the cat were it had no PR assigned, when it should be a 5. In the cat where it already had a PR of 4 assigned, it still has a PR of 4 assigned, while the site has shown on the G toolbar a PR of 5 for months now.

Possibly another snafu updating the G Directory.

Edited to add more info, PR in the cat for my site that shows a PR of 1, is correct because when the editor from the ODP added my site to that cat, it left out the "www", so in the regional cat, the site is correct, but in the shopping cat, it is listed incorrectly. I have requested a change via the ODP.

So, it is NOT a snafu with the G directory, but an incorrect listing in the ODP that I had not caught before. Do editors think that a request of a change for the URL will be sufficiant to get the change made to the listing?

Some Changes?

Just gained a new DMOZ link on July7th, the copies of DMOZ including Google's directory all have the new link, however, when I check the backlinks, I am seeing only 2 backlinks from DMOZ copies, why is this. Surely DMOZ and the Google directory should be showing.

Google Directory Data seems to be dated before ~4/04 (one of our sites switched domains and DMOZ picked up the 301 by April)

On my new website (2 months old), showing an increase in backlinks. No PR change (PR2).

I got into DMOZ around July 20th. Check Google directory nearly daily (I know, get a life.) Yesterday it was not in Google directory, today it is. Showing PR2 in the directory.

I'm seeing new backlinks for my sites, some went up (yippee) and some went down (boo). But they are old! They links aren't even there anymore.

I have a PR4 site showing a 0 on 216.239.37.147, but with new backlinks it should be going to a 5. It is a .org/non-profit with no blackhat stuff so I don't think it is penalized.

Seems a PR update may be working....

i want to say it again,
one my sites has pr updated, his old pr was 6! last month i've closed the website, (moved the site on another domain, all pages removed and a 404 error that say than the site domain is changed) the new BL update show only exetrnal BL all internal backlink are deleted, the number of bl goes from 1000+ to ~20 and the pr on all server is now 4

the only pr upgrade that i've seen.

i think than pr upgrade for all other websites will be tonight

Lots of Backlinks changes - no PR changes seen here.
MANY Positive Ranking Changes for balanced linking
Programs (No PR + low PR IBL's balancing high PR IBL's)
No noticable ranking changes for our sites which have not had balanced linking programs (mostly high PR IBL's only)

I manage 24 sites and none have changed PR. Most of them have increased backlinks but they are mostly PR 3 or below and one interesting thing I noticed is that none of my clients have backlinks to my site? Why you ask? because the pages I link from are PR 4 or 5 which aren't included in this update. So it's another useless backlink update.

I can see a new high PR backlink reported for the first time.

I see PageRank updates in the Google Directory. I believe that this is the PageRank that will show next time Google updates PageRank on the toolbar.

Since when? I've experienced this phenom 3 times in the last year. Within a week or two after the directory being updated, toolbar PR is updated as well.

i don't think than google want to remove the pr, or i think than they should start to remove the pr from the directory instead of updating it..

in the BL update of yesterday i think than for some of my sites a lot of BL are missing..

I am watching one serp change every refresh.I go from mo#1 to 6 to no#17 and back again.
fascinating.
Maybe they keep changing it till I am happy with it.I might stop looking when I am on no#1.At the moment I am no#2.;)

something happening.. i've seen on 1 server a pr change of my sites... pr dropped from 6 to 3 and another one from 3 to 0.. the value isn't real.. but i think than something is happening..
