Am I the only one to have seen this new tab?
I was very surprised to see it, I thought a new blog tab was in the works.
It's not turning up on the main google page, but is there for a search like this:
[google.com...]

It's a new tab, after google news saying Viewer New! in red.
I'm in Ireland, so maybe it's only over here before it goes to the main site?

It's not listed on the main google.ie page or the results page, but is showing up in all search results pages for Google.com just not on the main google page!
Very bizarre

I think they serve it randomly by cookie. Similar to how people get those click-tracking links.

I saw it back in May

I just deleted my google cookies and the tab disappeared. Google must be just testing it out selectively for the moment. What do you think of the google viewer?
In my opinion, I don't think it really deserves to be a main part of Google, it still seems a bit unpolished and not the killer-app that news was.

>>What do you think of the google viewer?

The basic idea of previewing is cool but I'd prefer something similar to what Vivisimo has.

I don't see it, but the viewer uses has its own serps, and they are far and away much spammier than normal datacenters. For quite sometime the viewer has been a good way to see "the shape of spam to come".

-- wow, I just tried a search via [labs.google.com...] and was sent to a html page with the viewer results sorted like a normal page, and displaying the spam results!

Yeah, maybe it's just me but the speed by which the pages shift seems too quick on the default setting. The setup with Vivisimo where the preview is chosen by the user seems less messy, the same with Wisenut's feature.
I don't have much use for the preview service myself, my thinking would be that most people are used to the idea of hitting the back button from an irrelevant result and would probably see the viewer as a gimmick.

Same here, there's even a News New! tab, the pages must be really outdated.

I think it is strange, that Google tries to introduce the Google Viewer to some visitors, while the Google Labs page is completely outdated. I looks almost like they stopped that project, judging the page with missing pictures and outdated content.

A few months ago, I tried Google Viewer and it worked just fine.

Google Viewer... interesting.

Maybe this is what the GV of www-gv.google.com stands for? I seem to remember someone said that datacenter was in Ireland too.

Could be, but why would they need a new Datacenter?

All I get is a regular SERP and some images that won't download at the top. How does the acual viewer work?

Take a look at the image at the bottom of the page: [labs.google.com...]

it is like a toolbar at the very top of the browserwindow. You type in the search word, and one result after the other is displayed. You can choose for how long a page is displayed.
