I've seen a script here at webmasterworld that is used to check inbound links and position for a certain keyword on www www2 and www3. I've searched for it, but can't find it...

Do you mean automated link checking on the Google index, if so...
Google webmaster tips:
Don't send automated queries to Google.
They could ban IP address's that do so, heard stories around here of it happening.

I hope not because I have used that tool on a few sites...it is quick and effective.
...and what about using programs like webposition gold? to check serps?

What I meant was software that sends automated requests to Google to check your sites position for keywords, I would personaly keep away from!
If you want to chck all the data centers out in one go, then just search for Google dance tool on the big G.
