Some think an update is in the wind - are people expecting big, possibly bad for some, changes?
It's too quiet out there.
I totally agree with you on this, while others discuss PR, Backlinks, new (Since May I think) ODP sites not showing up in Google yet etc.
The fact is since the last change with Google in June things have not really changed, expect more fresh tag showing in the SERPs, which seems to be consistently showing up every 2-3 days.
So now Google seems to have us all sailing in calm waters, and things never stay clam all the time do they?
The big question is not IF there's going to be a big change soon, BUT WHEN?

Would agree in general - small exeption:
SERPs for one key phrase I observe changed like this:
july 28 and before about 67 k
july 29 about 137 k
july 30 until now 67 k
Changes I've made at some sites appear about 3 days later. I hope that stays. It's nice to see effects of changes almost directly.

I have been waiting for deep crawl now for 5 weeks on many sites to no avail.
Heaps of incoming links still not on the google radar.
Anyone else seeing a delay?
But my backlinks haven't been updated in almost 2 months now.
Why guess at this crazy game?
It's friday - the slowest crawl day for me historically over the last 6 weeks. There will be more crawl activity sat and sunday and more fresh tags coming soon.
I hope that something is in the air.....My site needs to reflect the new changes.
It seems like the new pages have poped in, but I haven't seen any changes to PR? Does anybody have any comment on how an update may take shape.
Can anybody comment on the usual course of events for a google update?
When giving a site a complete overhaul - lets say you are stripping out all the tables and rebuilding the whole thing with CSS. You don't just do part of it and send it up. You send up a page or two, look at them, poke them, prod them, write down all the problems you seem cross browser and OS. Then you go back and rework it to get out all the bugs. Once you are done you launch the new version of your site. Now with that in mind; If you were giving your search engine a face lift or overhaul you would do the same thing.I have a sneaking suspicion we will see a new deep crawl on or around August 15th.

There are as some folks who have pointed out that they have also seen a few sites have been shifting UP & Down in Serps, I actually saw this today, a site that was sitting 2 places above mine, is now showing today 3 places below us and we have stayed in the same position.
So there is something going on that we cannot physically see, but I think Google have yet to implement phase 2 of the new Google, they have it all under control now, (phase 1 is nearly completed) and since the 15th of June no PR or back links have change or been updated.
(If it has been updated, google are doing a good job of hiding it from us)
However IMHO there is a massive change coming very very soon, it has to happen, all of these BackLinks that we have all been frantically adding over the last month or so.
(& Google has collected these already & continues to do so everyday)
Even if Google is only going to count backlinks (or what they show us!)with a PR of at least 4 I think that's been suggested here, that is still enough to make a big big difference and this will be a great time for most, but for others not so good as they see sites slide down.

That or new Algo's are being fiddled with.
So, if Google is dancing on the fly and not showing the updated PR or Backlinks, it really doesn't matter much since the average people surfing don't care about those things and in fact NEVER look at them.
If Google were only to show the updated PR and Backlinks every so often, the only people crying about it would be Webmasters and SEO's.
I have never seen Google serps so spam free as of now. At least for my given industry. They seem to of done a good job up to this point.
I don't think were going to see anymore traditional dances like we have in the past.

I usually get fresh tag every day and I can easily see my SERP move up or down (between #1 and #4) when I add new news/content, because the keyword weight changes.
I used to get a new fresh tag everyday, not the last two or three days, thought.

What differences were seen?
I am eagerly waiting the pr update. I had many sites launched in the early part of this year. I established links and built pr. About a month before dominic they were doing really well in the serps. However, Dominic update seemed to over night destroy all the link power (sites went from pr 5 or 6 to pr 3 or 4)and ranking (sites went from top 10 to top 100). I was hoping Google would sort itself out so I could be on top again.
From what I seen it was like all link pop. that was established by sites in March - July was lost by Google. I am not just talking about links not showing but just not calculated in the pr at all.
What differences were seen?

a) The sites whose index pages went AWOL a couple of months back still disappear from time to time on the first search (a re-fresh restores them to the SERPS).
b) This morning for example, the SERPS in some of my areas are cluttered with new PDF and DOC files, most totally useless to users by the way. I don't know why, but there they are (must have upgraded these file types with an algo tweak). High time Google sorted this mess and placed them under their own tab... 99% of searchers actually want web sites.
c) I have found a particular search term (just one so far) that causes a runtime bug in Google (line 38) every time I search on it.
For my point of view, I would far sooner they sorted out problems like these than upgrade anything. Fixes before upgrades. They seem too keen on new features recently, and not keen enough on having the engine running smoothly.
The changes I'm seeing (see backlink thread) are not logical. In other words sites that shouldn't be there are now on the first page of our main terms. I can't believe that this will stick.
Hopefully it's the beginning of a new phase where the backlinks and PR will be factored in - if so then it will only help us move up - with this morning's shuffle we are going backwards.
On the other hand, I'm seeing the directory reverting back again to February, so maybe we are again just seeing that poisoned batch of data that they can't get rid of.
It's like, okay we were stable and not bad for awhile, let's try whatever we failed to accomplish before, and POW, all this poor material returns.
Worse, they still seem to be terrified of adding pagerank calculations to the algorithm. Everything, everything, is anchor text. I wish they would figure out that manipoulating anchor text is a million times easier than manipulating pagerank.

Well, it was a few days back that I first posted.
I'd agree that this morning has seen some slight changes, nothing particularly new, just a wee bit of shuffling and some Fresh Tags.
I just been looking at the results again and I think that might explain what's going on. They seem to have reverted to a previous update although I'm not sure it's as far back as February.
I'm also seeing a different PR on some of my sites and the index page of one site is now showing PR0 (nothing smarmy on this site) while the rest of the pages are fine.
Just noticed the cached page is Aug. 2 with a fresh tag.
Verrrry strange!
>EDIT< I just checked our site again and our PR is back on the index page - huge sigh of relief!
Google testing something? It couldn't have been a change in index to happen so fast, I can only assume they were testing the removal of a spam filter (my posting in the Is PR Still King thread about spam in those brief SERPS refers) and then quickly reinstating when they realised it was working nicely.

I have just one site that's up and down like a freight elevator all the time, without changing a thing.
Been like this for weeks now, after a couple of continuous years at No 1 in all datacenters.
What's so different about cw?
