High ranking low traffic VS low ranking and high traffic.

When to choose between niche keywords or the popular ones.

I've recently launched a site aimed at a very competitive market. I've done my research and found dozends of fringe keywords with high profitability and low competition.

My question is how to judge rankings VS traffic.

A particular site is currently titled "Widget Information". It ranks 32 for Widget and 3 for Widget Information.

But on the first day in the index, It recieved 3 visitors from the Widget search and ranking 32, and only 1 visitor from teh Widget Information on rank 3.

I have now re-titled the page "Widget" only, figurign that loosing the rank 3 on "Widget infomration" will more then be made up by the couple of ranks I get on "Widget" only, probably moving me up to page 3, which should more then make up for the 1 lsot visitor per day on the other keyphrase.

Am I thinking along teh wrong lines? Should I rather improve teh phrase ranking to position 1?
