Hello,
I appologize if this subject has been addressed in previous posts but I couldn't find.
I have several sites that have mostly been spidered and I have shown up very well in search results for important keywords and then drop off entirely, this has happened a few times for various lengths of time.
I understand this is normal at first but am wondering if I can expect similar placement on the results pages on a more permanent basis after the temporary placements (first couple of months) are behind me?

Thanks.

Hi wspll, Welcome to WebmasterWorld.

I .. am wondering if I can expect similar placement on the results pages on a more permanent basis after the temporary placements (first couple of months) are behind me?

Pages of a new site found by freshbot seemed to have a better ranking in the SERP (Search Engine Result Page). Now it is harder to say. Its not even sure if there will be new updates similar to the ones we used to have every month. Just be optimistic, Google will start to find links to new sites. If there are enough links, your site will eventually do better than it is doing now.

I wrote it in the past tense, becuase it might not work anymore. We can only guess why Google would decide to help new pages.

First of all, new pages are more likely to be up-to-date. Another point is that PageRank makes it difficult for new pages to be found. People will only link to pages that they know of. Therefor new pages/sites are less likely to be get links. To break that circle, Google could have decided to help new pages. However, nobody knows except for some Googlers.
