(note to mods: have to post link otherwise I cannot show what i mean)

check the following link :

<snip>

google.com is redirecting somehwhere else to some advertising site .. using the toolbar for searching gives a 404. no page google works for me currently.

This has happened once with me and and another person i know on the web before. That time it was showing some emailaddress DOT com registering website, whose internal links were followed by www.google.com/aboutus.htm etc., but just for a minute or 2.

I am not blaming, but what is happening? Is this some new google earn money thing? Has anybody expereinced this?

sounds like you have adware or some other malicious software installed on your computer. it might be the result of visiting an unfriendly website with gator or something similar that forces an install. No notice of toolbar quirks on any of the 5 machines/networks i use it on.

I concur with coolasafanman. I had something similar happen on my home computer last week (with MSN), and running a spyware removal tool took care of the problem. Best of luck!
