I have been analysing how my sites have been doing, and I have make a few conclutions:

1. The new algo puts much less weight on the use of achortext on the backlinks. I think this is a good thing because it will stop some of the more aggressive SEO campains.

2. The new algo puts much more weight on titles and the h1 tag. I think this is a good thing. This has damaged some of my rankings, but so many more of the pages I manage have risen from the deep abyss of the index to a #1-10 position.

Is there anyone else who can confirm or agree with my findings?

I disagree on both counts but I'm curious to hear your reasoning and some non-specific examples you're basing this on.

I would agree with that.
A site I put up which has only a couple of backlinks is ranking well on fi. Optimization is little more than making sure keywords are in h1 and the body text.

If I went on the 200 or so sites that I manage, I would make exactly the opposite observation - but I would probably be incorrect to do so.

There are so many other variables at work that it is almost impossible to draw logical conclusions - particularly based on the last two updates.

Ok, lets take an example.

One of my sites www.gizmos.com, has a lot of backlink achor text wish read www.gizmos.com. Unfortunatly The site is really about keyword-gizmos and therefore a compeating site (www.keyword-gizmos.com) is naturally getting more backlinks with the correct keyword-gizmos achortext. And therefore has been on top of the SERPS. None of the to sites has gone thru any big changes. But my site has "keyword gizmo" has its title and index h1. The other site has "keyword-gizmo.com - The worlds leading gizmo site.
In the past my site has been way down on the serps for the query "keyword gizmo", even though I have optimized the index page and the site for this query. Now when nothing else has changed my site is rocking the #1 position. The keyword-gizmo.com site is still #1 in the achor text serach.

One of my other sites (unrelated industry) www.bluegizmo.com
was rocking the #1 on the position for the query "bluegizmo"
after this update it has dropped to position #36. But is still #1 in the achortext search.

Or am I reading this wrong?

GG mentioned in the thread on Esmerelda not to rely on how many backlinks you currently see. Ergo, you don't know yet whether the recent update has "discovered" more backlinks to you or not, and increase your PR wilst the competitive site you mentioned may have decreased.

One alternative hypothesis - and there are many more.

The algo is very complex and trying to "guess" what has changed (if anything) is very premature.

Example
A gardener grows tomatoes every year. One year the average temperature in the summer is 20 degrees, then next it is 22 degrees. Will he grow more tomatoes in the second year? Some people will say yes, others might say depends how much rain, how much peat, how much plant food, how much he cropped out the plant, how well he weeded the plant, .. there are many variable.

Just like G - very dangerous to assume ....

You, are right ofcourse. But I see the same picture for all
the sites I manage. And just like a in stockbrooking, SEO is partly an assuming and guessing business. There could also be other factors in play on site or offsite...

I aggree partly - what I am seeing is definitley more weight on the title. I cannot comment on anchor text as I haven't seen any real evidence of this as yet.

The title has always ruled but now it is much more important.
