Ok.. so with trying to figure out what is going on here.. I go into the google directory.. I am now the last one out of 15 sites when you choose to display by PR order.. However I have a better PR then approx half the sites on that page... so why when in PR order am I on the bottom? Is this a gliche? Ahhhhhhhhhhhh....

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! But this one is with a smile.. I just looked at the directory again and the site I was referring to actually moved up to an all time high in that list inside the directory page. I dont know whats going on but changes are and maybe Google will be fixed. Well I hope... but defintely changes are happening in the last 2 hours alone. ok.. I will keep the booze wrapped up for a few days and try and not think about google at all! Their is hope atleast that google will love me again like it has for so long before it found Dominic or whatever that mess is/was.

You are correct about not thinking about Google for the next few days. I am finding that saying it and doing it are two different things.
Now, about those bottles you're no longer needing...:)

If we begin to see sponsored links or banners for Mental Healthcare for Webmasters coming up on Google, we'll no it was all a scam.

You're not trying to get some of the booze, are you? Ahh, I can barely type anyway, at this point.

rfgdxm, I hope I didn't offend. Good to see you're back at seven. I think its time for the serious update thread.

I would say best leave it another day looking at the current thread! I feel sorry for googleguy...

So, do you think that google have taken a new rdf dmoz dump? Presumably that won't factor in this month, so I won't get my nice directory description next to my site in the SERPS just yet?

Hmm. My DMOZ entry was updated (from older .co.uk domain to preferred .com domain) on Feb 19 this year. I had seen it previously updated in Google to .com but following Esmerelda it seems to have returned to .co.uk (which is on a 301 to .com).

This may or may not be connected to the fact that although I have lots of pages indexed the home page is not showing up in SERPS for the key phrase that had it on page one before...

Any other evidence about the DMOZ dump in use?

HenryUK,

I think what you're saying is that you think google is using a dmoz dump from pre-February?

an interetsing point about the dmoz dump...

There are links on many search result pages that link to pages in the directory that don't exist anymore.

There are links on many search result pages that link to pages in the directory that don't exist anymore.

That has been the case for a while as google was using a dmoz dump from Feb/March and dmoz have since had a major clean up and deleted a fair number of sites.

I'm not sure of the timings for google - whether they grab a dmoz dump before or after the dance, but what I have learned so far is that it is usually after.

So I guess it will be another week or two before the google directory is updated with the next rdf dump, and another cycle before the dmoz backlinks and descriptions appear in the SERPS.

TJ - I wouldn't be so presumptuous as to state that as a fact, but that's the logical conclusion to draw from the facts I do know.

Following your other message I guess I will have to be patient as ever. My point was that it *seems* to have reverted to an earlier version, as I did see the .com address in Google's version at some point.

cheers,

H

Never, ever, a truer word spoken in the jest of SEO!

What you see in dmoz is interesting, but one thing is for certain - they will take a new rdf datadump at some point and it will be superceded.

>> I think what you're saying is that you think google is using a dmoz dump from pre-February? <<

There was no RDF dump between 2002 September and 2003 February so this isn't possible.

Since that time, at least 3 RDFs were produced every month, except a few went missing late-April to mid-May this year.
