Zeus and themeindex.html

Google ban due to this

I have been handed a website that has obviously been removed by google for using zues and not changing the template provided.

What I need to know is, what would you do with this?

I am considering:

1. Throwing the domain away and rebuilding the site on a new domain.

2. Removing the zues pages and begging google to reindex.

Has anyone had any experience with banned sites due to the use of zues and managed to get back in?

I have not followed the zeus thing carefully, but definitely seem to recall that the penalty was just giving the themeindex.html page a PR of zero.

Can anyone confirm or contradict that?
