This may just be a timed coincidence, but I'm appearing #14 in the serps and #13 in -fi yet ten minutes ago I had a referral from page 1. Is there another new datacentre out there that we don't know about or did some fresbot boost just expire?

Your 'page 1' has only 10 results? Maybe the visitor changed it to a higher number. Go on Google's home page to "Preferences >> Number of Results". Default is 10, but other options are 20, 30, 50, and 100.

Yeah but the referral gave
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=the+search (not the actual one)

You can see in the referral if they have altered from the default of 10 e.g. http://www.google.com/search?num=20&hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&as_qdr=all&q=the+search

Hi Rob,

I just did a search from the home page (www.google.com) for widget, and this is the URL:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=widget

and the result page starts with

Results 1 - 100 of about 1,280,000. Search took 0.42 seconds.

For me, the number of results is set to 100 (as you can see in the line above), but it doesn't show in the URL. The extra "num=x" string is added when you search from a SERP (new search or the 'next' page).

Okay thanks for the help, I wish they let you know a bit more clearly so I didn't think there was something new.
