Depends on the other number of links from the page your link is on, and thus how much pr is given to you. The biggest benefit will be on the anchor text used on your link. The pr boost will help a bit with your ranking on competitve keywords, but 'on page' optimisation is still very important. PR alone will do little without optimisation, but if this link raises you to pr5 you should start to rank well for hundreds of search phrases if you have a site the spider can gobble up (lots of content). and the pr acquired can flow through your site. You may find the spider will index more of your pages if it has not done so to date, especially if they are dynamic.
Don't expect too much on major search terms, but you will pick up better rankings with less competitive phrases. To compete on major phrases, you will need a few more high pr sites to link to you, giving yourself a pr6+.
Good luck :)
I'm curious MHes if you are saying that anchor text from a high PR site is a greater boost for your site than identical anchor text from a lower PR site. Although it does make some sense to me, I have heard many people argue that this is not the case. Many feel anchor text and PR are mutually exclusive. Is there evidence this is not the case?
In addition Bokesch, if the toolbar shows the site having PR7, it could actually be 7.0 to 7.999. Because of the logarithmic scale Google uses for PageRank, there is a very big difference between the two. You will most likely end up with a PR5 or possibly PR6 if the site has few outbound links and is a high PR7
I had never considered that and perhaps it makes no difference what the pr is when google is reading anchor text..... good point!
I just assumed it would be worth more from a higher pr site.
My gut feeling is that anchor text on an 'on theme page' to your site is very good news, and if google has blessed that page with a high pr the chances are that it will note the anchor text as being a serious recomendation from a serious site. However I have no proof.
My experience has been that if you have a pr5+ you are in the game and competitive. Anything above that is great but hard work chasing and with pr5 you are better to concentrate on content and let natural links come your way.
