Most, probably all, speculations on the latest developments at Google has been discussed, rediscussed and evaluated, same questions has been posted for apples, pears, bananas, fruits, vegtables, widgets and ... you name it.

Repeated GoogleGuy answers/statements, Algo change, links back or forth, PR, penalties, etc threads are bringing the Google News forum to it's knees.. use site search [webmasterworld.com], read the knowledgebase [webmasterworld.com], read the Google News forum Charter [webmasterworld.com]

Calm down, Google is in a state of transition, things are being tested at the moment, handling data of 3 billion pages, implementing new filters, recalculating scores, etc, takes time.

I'd say, look for deepbot 216.239.46.* in your logs. That will indicate a future change, for now it's all guessing and time wasters (hope i don't offend anybody!)

Actually, GG made a comment acknowledging that a lot of people observed that freshbot was acting like deepbot now. I took that as an indication there might be no more deepbot/freshbot distinction. Makes some sense as the next step for Google. Google used to do one crawl a month, crunch the data, and spit out an index. Freshbot was added later to sprinkle in new stuff between updates. However, data is data. No reason what freshbot finds can't be used in the monthly update also.

It seems like a logical progression. People have wondered since freshie was a youngster if the traditional update might disappear to be replaced by ongoing sticky fresh results. Maybe that's why things are so messed up right now; it would be a drastic change to algos and servers etc. GG also drops hints often, (e.g. a thread I posted in a little earlier). Time will tell.

Imagine where we would all be without the help of GoogleGuy and this great forum!

Stefan, nice theory except GG wasn't just hinting when he said explicitly, "expect at least one more traditional update". As for which bot will gather the data, who knows.

WebmasterWorld rocks, seriously.

GG is a very patient, cool guy who is here for a number of reasons, most of which we can only speculate on.

Added: Yeah mfishy, for sure, (your post went up while I was typing). I was thinking down the road a ways...

Nobody here jojojo, except possibly GG, knows when the next update will be. Only speculation I'd make is I'd be very surprised if it is very soon, as in the next few days.

If serious updates (serp changes) occour, without deepbot being recorded, the pattern has changed, up untill now we are still guessing.

My point is that doing a little research will spare F3 a lot of redundant Q/A's

Agree totally. Also, many forget sometimes that Googleguy is here on his own free time trying to help out as best he can. He seems to take beating from some around here when things turn out as the last update did. I think the deepbot/freshbot are probably becoming indistinguishable and the last monthly update will occur soon.

If there were no guessing right now, there would be no need for this forum; all the old certainties seem to have evaporated since Dominic rolled in.

Right now I have pages with few backlinks cached as of 29th May and pages with many more backlinks cached as of some time around Feb/March. I have zero page rank across my entire site but keyword searches have never produced better results.

Google is a rollercoaster and we're riding it. We can all shout and scream, but we have no brakes and no steering and no inclination to get off in the middle of the ride. And to cap it all, I'm not convinced that even GoogleGuy knows when it's all going to settle down.

We all have but one choice - hold tight and try not to panic.

Kaled.

Ignore IP ranges in distinguishing Freshbot from Deepbot (they never were all that reliable to begin with). Use the mime type info Googlebot hides in the http_accept header.

Repeated GoogleGuy answers/statements, Algo change, links back or forth, PR, penalties, etc threads are bringing the Google News forum to it's knees..

And some of us Moderators as well.

Thank you, thank you, thank you ulstrup. Very true, and a very merciful post. So lets not have this thread turn into yet another one of those.
