I have a question for you guys.....my domain.com is setup like this:

domain.com has 1 link pointing to: domain.com/subfolder

Then on the subfolder index.html page, there are 100 links put up in format page01.htm through page100.htm, is this a good way to spread page rank or is it too much links per 1 page? these links aren't going to any outgoing url's.. what do you guys think of this format? or anyone can suggest a better way to organize the structure?

thanks

paulk,

there is no better or worse structure (as long as there are no dead ens). It mainly depends on what you want: a high PR index page and low PR content pages or a more equal distributed PR scenario.

As long as the number of pages and the incoming links doesn't change, the total amount of PR on your site (sum of PR over all pages) is independent from the link structure. However, by changing the structure of your site from hierarchical to flat you can change the distribution of PR. In the latter case PR would be distributed more equally over the pages (compared to the current situation). To get a more flat structure you can e.g. add some direct links to some content pages on your main page and crosslinking content pages.

Also, keep the links on a given page to a reasonable number (fewer than 100).

Yea i see what you're saying man... so you think it would be good to say place 3-4 links on the main index page to the pages I feel are more important where I want higher PR distribution? Then on the subfolder if i do it like this:

domain.com/subfolder/index.html - this page will have 20 internal links then below i do PAGE 2 link

on page 2: domain.com/subfolder/index2.html another 20 links and so on...?

do you think doing that is a better way of distributing PR as opposed to straight out placing all the links on 1 subfolder?

Thanks for your response...

I would link in a 'natural' way, i.e. I wouldn't place too many links on a page. I think that the best way for users a well as for search engines. Also, I would add some direct links (on the main index page as well as on other appropriate pages) to the most important pages. Thus users could easily reach these pages and they will get more weight/PR (compared to a 'normal content' page).

By the way, adding a sitemap could be also a good idea (for users and SE).
