Using 'allinurl:www.widget.com' I get results for
www.widget.com and www.widget.com.au

Why would the Australia results be included when I did not include the '.au' in the query?

Because .com is included in / substring of .com.au ...?

You didn't search for:

url contains .com but does not contain .com.au

...or!?

Yes indeed.

allinurl:widgets.com -au

works well.

I did not know that unlike most country urls, Australia includes 'com' as part of the name and not 'co'.

Ooopps my mistake. Misspelling anomalie is another!
