I should be so lucky!

Who decides the luck on Google?

I think for the first time ever I clicked on the 'I'm feeling lucky' search option on Google. I always thought it was something totally random but apparently not - the same site comes up every time for the same search term.

What's the logic behind this option?

The logic is simple that - save server load for google :)

Sorry, but I don't really buy either of those answers. As far as I can see Google lists the site which is #1 ranked for that search term anyway. Why would anyone be interesred to search like this? Why is it even an option?

Google Web Search Features

I'm Feeling Lucky [google.com]

The "I'm Feeling Lucky" button takes you directly to the first web page Google returned for your query. You will not see the other search results at all.An "I'm Feeling Lucky" search means you spend less time searching for web pages and more time looking at them.

It's a historical feature. The feelin' lucky button was the first thing that made it easy to me to remember google when it just started as beta version. They have been the first with such a - sometimes useless / allways funny - feature.

You can even play party games using this feature. Bets per keyword on what's the landing page. Do you have a beamer ...? ;)
