Hello,
in the last month we have exchanged links with more than 1200 link partners. They all have a pagerank >3 and we list them all on pure .html sites. But google counts only about 300 links to our website! WHY?

We check our link partners with an automated linkcrawler, so we can be sure that the links are installed on the other websites! So we really don't understand why only about 300 links are counted!

Thanks for the help, Bjoern

Welcome to Webmasterworld.

But google counts only about 300 links to our website! WHY?

They ONLY show links that are of PR4 or higher.

anyone who has proof that PR3 links are not counted, please step forward and share your information.

You will see MANY sites which do well in the serps but have NO backlinks showing on google.

always go for quality, targeted on topic links which will send you traffic, and anything else is a bonus.

Also you don't know if they are using javascript to stop Google from spidering them and you don't know if they are banned sites. They may have that link page turned off in the robots.txt. I have exchanged links with people but I made sure Google can't spider my links page.

Hello Bjoern, welcome to WebmasterWorld!

Step 1: Read the Google Knowledge Base [webmasterworld.com]
This will tell you Google only shows links with PR 4 or so. Lower PR links get counted, but not shown.
Most other basic questions you have get covered there as well.

Step 2: Use the sitesearch and search for link exchange, link farms, etc. General consensus: watch out.

Step 3: read a bit around in this forum: Lots of threads going on about people not seeing their current links in Google.
