It tells you at the bottom now that there are International versions for: Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, UK and the original US.

Edit: Maybe they will make the .com a worldwide version and have a specific US version at .us

If that ever happens I will happily eat my hat :)

Google adds news specific to the UK. A web without borders seems like a distant dream as nationalism is endorsed one site at a time.

I don't know who authored this piece from WebmasterWorld's front page, but let's face it; What is front page news in the US may not even make it to the bottom of page 32 elsewhere in the world. An example from Google News US a minute ago:

LOS ANGELES - The field of finalists vying for the "American Idol" title has been trimmed to two. Kimberly Locke was voted out of the singing contest Wednesday night by viewers. That leaves Clay Aiken ...

Who are these people? Does anyone outside of the US care? Does one "endorse nationalism" by not caring? 40 languages are spoken in Europe alone, hundreds more in the rest of the world. Only 28% of all Europeans understand English at all. Globally, the figure is much lower. I am still looking forward to Google News in German, French, Italian and Spanish, not to mention my own language. Meanwhile: Congratulations Britain!

Good morning, Britain. :) I remember being in France once and watching curling on TV. You never see that sport in the states, but it's really neat. I'm glad we're bringing in different ways to see news. Google News already helped show the different views of news sources, so it's exciting to be able to get a feel for the perspectives of different countries as well.

The two finalists on a top TV show in the U.S. called American Idol, based on a British show called Pop Idol.

Also, people will always be interested in news local to them, there's nothing nationalistic about that - that's why they have regional TV news, for example. Whilst someone living in Northampton, UK might care about a cat being stuck up a tree for over 3 hours in the city, someone living in Sydney, Austrailia, will not. I definitely think this is a good thing.

I agree, Hazza. The UK news in particular is really starting to grow on me. :)
