Google Algorithm not showing Relevant Pages

Showing parent index page rather than the optimized page for the keywords

Has anyone noticed this in the google algorithm? If I type in a keyword phrase, instead of showing me pages having content on that specific topic, it is showing the parent index pages.

E.x. Suppose a site has a main page on widgets, and is having additonal subpages of blue, red, yellow, and green widgets. I assume that when I type "Blue Widgets", it will give me the direct subpage of blue widgets in the serps, but that is not the case. The result is giving me that main page in the serps.

Sometimes google shows just 1 result from 1 site (rather than the normal 2) and in that case the end result is that a user has to click on that result, and again has to go to the subpage to get the required information. So 2 clicks for the user, rather than just one. :(

Also, what is the point in displaying the main page in the serps rather than the appropriate optimized relevant subpage.

Has anyone else noticed this!

Sometimes doing an exact search "blue widgets" will help in getting the inner sub-page.

What you describe has to do with the google algo and the way people link.

Google can push up pages in Serps if "widgets" is a prominent part of the page and "blue" a less prominent part and many pages link to it with widgets in the anchortext.

Often the index page of a site gets most inbound external links. If they are motivated with anchortexts containing for example "blue widgets", then the index page will turn up first.

AGREE! But sometimes it is worst, instead of they should show my index page, they show my about page. :(
