I don't know if this really means anything, but right now I see only 1000 backlinks for yahoo on www-sj.google.com.
Maybe they are just playing around with that database?

Please!

In past months I've seen flucations on other data centers in between the updates and they NEVER turned out to be the new index.

Lol, no-one said anything about this being the new index. It's just interesting looking at the little games Google play :)

I agree with Mr Guy we are all not getting anywhere with this thread and many other datacenters move about during fresh dates etc. Plus Google would never tell us what they are testing and where and I don't think any wise SEO would make changes to their web sites just because one datacenter is showing different results.

If anything happend to the main index I would stand back, review it and then make changes. So guessing about www-sj would not really help or influence me.

For my search terms, I have been getting a different SERP on -sj Vs. www.google.com since the last dance.

I happen to have checked my results on www-sj versus my results on Alexa or Yahoo, and lo and behold they were the same. I am pretty sure www-sj is serving up serps for these other sites.

SJ's been different than all of the other datacenters for me since the last dance. The only place I've seen the results that appear on -Sj is on the two aformentioned 'SE's.

If anyones interested I can sticky some search words that show what I am talking about.

A three word search term to find a site that I am involved with, which has been live for 5 weeks, shows only 9 results on www, and does not include the site in question.

A search on -sj has 19 results and does include the site; with the cached version being that from about 2003-04-14.

Is it possible that for the first time we are seeing a slow incremental update?

Fwiw,

it seems with the lastest kerfuffle with -sj that what I had thought about it serving alexa and yahoo was dead wrong. Just a coincidence I guess...

Interesting idea. How about a slow, incremental merge of two databases -- the usual deepbot that specializes in calculating PageRank, and the freshbot, which has been going pretty darn deep lately itself.

Or another way of looking at it is that the deepbot routines will slowly be put on "deep background," and over time, we won't all be sitting around with our tongues hanging out once a month. Eventually it will look like Everflux, Everyday.

I agree with you that the freshbot is looking more like a deepbot with every passing day. Now you can submit a new site and within three days max, the fresh bot would have visited you and you will start getting google traffic.

My view : There must be a reason for all this.

It is not like google to put a new index online without such any reason. They must have enough dev machines inside for all their testing. So we are in for some radical changes :-)

Well, I think waynet gets the prize for spotting the sj change first.

Follow-up conversation is going on in a new thread [webmasterworld.com].
