One interesting thing I noticed is the changes in the top 1-5 sites - almost none!
Except - one site that I watch changed domain names last month. They were mirrors and both were listed in G but the old one was the only one that showed up in the SERPs. Now, the new domain name has moved up to #3 which is 2 spaces above the older domain's past rank. The old domain appears to be gone although I didn't search deeply for it.
Only interesting to watch, don't count on this being anything permanent, I think it's waaay too early.
-sj definitely has more fresh content then the other servers. Unquestionable they are using this datacenter as a testbed. No way of predicting anything from such, because they might just decide this test gave worse results.
too many internal pages are showing up .. and the front pages are disappearing
for example, you are looking for widgets
www.1widget.com/page is coming up, and www.1widget.com is gone .. even though the main page is much better focused
even better .. use this to search: [www-sj.google.com...]
Its more of raw results .. and they are way out of whack imo.
The facts remain that Google updates every 4 to 6 weeks and change of baclink numbers are the only way of spotting an update.
This thread was correct to be started but should finish because their is no substance to the behavior of Google.
if this is a sign of things to come, the algo has been QUITE changed as I see it
AFAIK, anchor text seems to be even MORE IMPORTANT now.
For an old gaming site I used to run, the second and third sites for the last while have been just there because of anchor text [one of the sites is in fact an Ultimate Search website]
With www-sj, it has fallen to third, and those other two have moved up. The first site being there only because of anchor text!
The site then shows the current main database. I have just seen the current results on the www-sj.google.com.
But ask why would they test on www-sj.google.com and not an internally hosted server so no one can see.
Not a lot to get excited about :(
[www-sj.google.com...]
and
[www-sj2.google.com...]
I don't see any of this 1000 link stuff or any weird activity whatsoever... Looks exactly like the regular google.com to me? hmm...

I agree with rfgdxm1:
>>Looks like a great index to me. Definitely seeing less emphasis on anchor text of inbound links.
Just the sort of thing I would like to see Google start implementing. Limiting links to the 1000 best for each site - that would throw up some interesting changes in the serps.
I do wonder though, if a particular datacenter is under heavy traffic or has an emergency breakdown or whatever could it be they use an older version mixed with fresh dates.
This would seem a better explaination!
I definitely didn't see an older index on sj a few minutes ago. I saw low pr pages that are never really freshbotted with newer pages in the index. And a 1000 backlink limit.

I have high hopes that Google's data is rather more well protected that that ;)
They where using this datacenter as a test bed.
1. Run the PR calculation for only a few iterations and satistically speaking you will get close to the "final index"
2. Use the created database to test new algorithms your working on, such as spam detection.
3. Spend a few weeks testing it and if everything is ok, add it to the "real update process"
In past months I've seen flucations on other data centers in between the updates and they NEVER turned out to be the new index.
Why would this one be any different and certainly why would they give the world an advance look at the next update.
Your all getting excited about nothing but I guess it is something to talk about!
For all my competitors, please OPTIMIZE your site for the sj data center! Pretty Please!
