disappearing sites

A week or so ago i finished a group of sites, submitted them to google and stuck links to them on one of my established sites.
Within a few days they were listed in google and came up for relevant searches.

Now half these sites are gone. Is this usual because they are so new and google hasnt indexed them properly yet? When they were listed they still had grey bars and when searching in google for the domain name, google said the sites were not listed, even though they were.
But now they are gone.

I'm worried about it because the first few sites were cross linked. I removed these cross links as soon as i realised google had listed them ( i didnt think they'd get listed until the next dance atleast)
and when checking a day or so later, the google cached pages showed the sites with the cross links removed, so i figured it would be ok.
but now the sites are gone from google totally.
