how bad is it if my site was down

during the google update.

my site was down thanks to my isp - it's been down since 12:37 am est

will this effect my ranking?

it's been up all along - but just last night their server crapped out on me.

please advise.

I think you should ok as long as it's up and running for the next deep crawl (which should happen in a couple of days or so)

I think (I dont know for sure), but if your site was up for the last deep crawl, then it doesnt matter if its up or down now.

AFAIK - Google crawls to get the information - the update is when Google migrates that information onto live servers.

Therefore Google really doesnt need your site to be up right now for it to be in the index - as long as you are there during the crawl at the beginning of each month, your site will be in.

I could be wrong though. Anyone?

anyone - any more comments? I like the sounds of what MarketingGuy said - but a little more re-assurance would be nice - so far I don't see any page rank increase.

how long after the update begins should one expect to see page rank increases? Assuming I'm getting one.

I'm with Leo & Marketing Guy, but I think the timescale is any time from now until a week or more. There was a recent thread about how soon the crawl started after each update where some of us gave our experiences.
