What are signs of incoming update?

I read that this could be indication of Google update:
"The Google-Cache of many websites switches to an older version".
Is it true?

Are there any other signs?

BTW there were 33 days between previous updates. If we add 33 day to the last update date it'll be April,11.

>Are there any other signs?

Well, Brett has said in another post that folks should keep an eye on WebmasterWorld's front page as it would be posted there.

I saw click trackers in all SERPs this morning and now estimated results returned on www2/3 are differing from www. I did observe the same thing before last update. I think this is it, be prepared for the backlinks to change on www2/3 soon.

All the signs have been going on for nearly a week now. We've all been saying soon for about 10 days, shouldn't their be a rule about what 'soon' actually refers to?

InternetHeaven, if the deep crawl has finished for this cycle and the update has not occurred, why are we seeing the deepcrawler?

Also, why is this a sign that the update is near?

The deepcrawl involves several visits and can last up to 10 days.

That is true, Jon80 but as I understand it, the deepcrawl has finished for this cycle.

In the usual 'update-sheme' the deep crawlers start hitting right after the dance starts.
We had some updates when the deepcrawler started before the dance, but as far as i know the update started very close after the deepcrawlers came lurking on those occasions.

However, i do notice some 'errors' lately, maybe they are patching up those before releasing the new index.

Maybe something went wrong with the deepcrawl.

I think this is a big prelude to an update gyp.

If it's too much longer, it will have to be the only update for the month.

Maybe my previous hypothesis is right - they're "getting back to normal schedule" as GoogleGuy said, but they're going the other way, by having a long wait. If we get two update periods 40 days long, that will happen.

Real wrath-of-God type stuff. Plagues, darkness, the dead rising from the grave, forty years of darkness, earthquakes, volcanoes, riots in the streets, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria! :o

We've got the mass hysteria part down on WW already, but I haven't seen any of the other signs yet.

How to tell if a Google Update has started [webmasterworld.com] and Google Update FAQ [webmasterworld.com].

> If we add 33 day to the last update date it'll be April,11

Remember [webmasterworld.com] last March/April update? We'll have to wait more than another week to match that record.

Those guys and gals at Google like to get things right. I'm sure that the update will come when it's ready, but not a minute before.

I'm told that the update feels like it comes quicker if you stop thinking about it for a few days. Maybe some deep meditation, a home study course in art appreciation or a little gardening.

I don’t even want to think about it. What is Google? Dance? Who needs it? It’s not like Google produces 80% of my traffic so who would care. It’s just a search engine update……. Why is everyone so stressed out!

Why Why WHY Let me tell you why *#&^&$*(#@) Google &#^&@%^ just dance already baby needs a new pare of shoe’s.

Seems one of the surest signs of an impending dance is that I receive loads of link requests from lousy websites.

The number of days to an update are inversely proportionate to the insanity of most of the webmasters on this forum :-)

I think it is a little scary to see a deep crawl (the second deep crawl since the last update). Did something go wrong with the data from the first deepcrawl? Are they going to try to hurry up and do another deep crawl so they can do the update in couple of weeks?

I'm starting to agree Liana's thread about sensing something is not right. They have not met their self-described update every 4 weeks.

I'm actually finding more current info on alltheweb right now.

Which of the crawlers is used for the main index update?

April 9: Deepcrawler reads index
.....
May 5: Freshbot reads the latest version of the page
May 6: Next update starts

Does it use the May 5 Freshbot info or the last Deepcrawl from April 9?

dvduval,

I agree. Since Google factors links heavily in their ranking, despite freshbot, they are really showing results now that are from a snapshot of the web's linking structure some time ago. I doubt this is what Google wants so maybe they are having some issues.

That or when GoogleGuy said they were trying to get back on schedule he meant by having avery late updat this month to get back to end of the month cycle.

What makes you think the deepcrawl is here now? Only 64.68.82.* is out right now. 216.239.46.* is the deepcrawl.

Yeah, I don't know why we have all this talk of the deepcrawl. I've seen the freshbot really active, but no signs of the deepbot.

Same here. No sign of the regular deep crawler (216.239.46.*). But freshbot (64.68.82.*) is doing a deep crawl.
