I'm not really sure what info you are asking. :)
You should know your website best and check your server logs to see what sort of searches people use to find you.
Google's Directory is taken from dmoz.org and you must submit to each individual category [if you really have unique offerings] manually.
A human editor will eventually check the page you submit. It will take a rather long time to get listed depending upon your category.
How long? 6mos-1yr or thereabouts, but it will vary a lot per category.
Usually, sites only get ONE category listing plus a Regional Listing. Regional listings are fairly quick to get from my experience.
Not sure how anyone here can help you with what keywords help you get listed to a category?
You provide a description and a human will look at the site/page and determine if it's appropriate for that category. Of course the content on the website MUST represent what the category is all about or your site will be rejected.
Why has your boss decided it is 'urgent' to be listed in Googles Directory listing? Does the site rank well under important key phrases on Google's regular search?
I'm sure folks will correct me if I gave wrong info...
Regards,
AW
Wrong. The range is more like a few hour to a few years. Just yesterday as an ODP editor I reviewed and added a site less than 2 hours after it was submitted. If someone submits a guidelines compliant site to the regional cat of my home town where I can edit, if it takes a week to get reviewed that would mean that I have exceeded my record for laziness. There are a lot of areas of the ODP where the queues are short.
Wrong. The range is more like a few hour to a few years.
Hence, the reason why I stated it will vary a lot depending upon category. ;)
How long will dmoz be down? Saw the thread and checked just this AM (EST) and couldn't get to the site.
I checked with resource zone for my own site and was told it would be a 'while'. It's been 5+ months now.

As for the spam Powdork, trust me you can get this no matter where you edit in the ODP. None of the cats I edit are tend be be spam magnets, but that doesn't stop the spammers from trying anyway. :( I've wondered how bad things really are over in Shopping? I just noticed an @link in a cat I edit to Shopping which has 360 listed sites, and 369 greens. Looks scary over there. ;)
The ODP is up on the editor side. I'm in right now. Try the public mirror: [ch.dmoz.org...]

Shopping perchance?
