Is this the "is this the update thread"

How do I know when it's official

<:)>Forget about the dance, we know what kicks that off (sort of). Where is the fun there? Some numbers change and then people are happy/sad in equal proportions.
The fun part is the pre update thread, so here is my question.
How do we tell when the pre update thread has started? Its never listed on the homepage until the actual update. There are usually several going at once so how do we know which is real? Here are my theories.
The alexa ranking for ww shows a dramatic shift when the thread reaches terminal velocity around thirty posts/hr, this is usually a signal that the thread is underway. So I come to ww to see whats up and I notice several pre update threads all with numerous posts. Now how do I find the official pre update thread amongst the many impostors? Simple. Only one thread will contain GoogleGuy's pre update pep talk about lifting or doling out penalties.

When will the "is this the update thread be this month?"</:)>

Or, GG posts in one of the threads "you guys should take a few days off", telling us that the update is not imminent? Should we take a few days of GG? ;)

I think the update has started. I'm seeing different backlinks to yahoo on www4 ;)

No, that can't be it because I linked to Y! last month and it doesn't show up as backlink on www4.;)

Hmm... www4 is actually showing zero backlinks for www.yahoo.com, although it is still in the index, just waaaay down. Top match for "yahoo!" is a site about the FIFA World Cup.

In fact all the national Yahoo's are missing too. Have they been PR0ed?

I think they got banned for linking to bad neighbourhoods [search.yahoo.com]

link:www.yahoo.com showing 692K on all... Didn't Google Guy make a post a day or two ago that said something like "way too early"? My guess, next week at earliest!

Does anybody have ANY idea of the next deep crawl?
I've made so many changes to a lot of our client's site.

Im sure their PR will increase at the next update.
I'm a just a bit anxious to see all the work finally pay off in terms of better PR...

Oy. If I say it will be a long while, will that head off the threads and meta-threads about the update? ;)

All www-s are still showing the same result here: ABOUT 692,000 links to yahoo. Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t this mean that Google has not yet finished determining the EXACT number of links to yahoo for last month? I think that the pre-update only starts when all numbers for last month are finally accurate.

Oh oh! I think GG means to say that they counted wrong, and have to start all over again:
1 link to yahoo…
2 links to yahoo…
3 links to yahoo…
It takes time! We have to be patient.

GG

A day is a lifetime in the life of a mayfly :)

Now, if you defined "long while" people might just get the message.
How about an "I wouldnt worry about it for at least a week possibly two or 3 or 4 even" post.

Perhaps its time for a forum rule that bans users for 24 hours every time they post an "is this the update yet post" :D

Hey, you should be pretty happy everyone has concerns/anxiety over the updates. Do you see many threads about when ink, atw, altivista, etc...will update? Nope.

Although, perhaps Ink will be on your heels soon- so celebrate the fact we webheads go nuts for the G update. :)

I'm too busy building doorway pages and filling my white space with while fonts packed with keywords...

<gasp!>

Okay - just kidding... :) Waiting patiently like the rest of you to see how much work we are going to have to do this month!

No thread officially becomes the "is this the update?" thread until it has been combined by the mods with another proto-"is this the update thread?" thread.

There is an historical list of the first date of combination of "i-t-t-u threads" that I think will show, if you analyse the dates of combination, a *significantly* different eigenvalue to the dates of the actual updates.

can't locate that thread for the moment though...

i'm glad someone started the pre-update thread, very clever way of doing it if you ask me.

I've been waiting for this thread for days, it just makes me feel better to see everyone else as hysterical as me.

Hi Googleguy,

I thought of great solution, just tell us exactly when the monthly update will occur make sure to give us 2-3 weeks notice so we can prepare. Also, it would be nice if you could give the Google algo as well. Better yet how about we just tell you our sites and the keywords we want and you give us top placement This all seems to make sense to me ;)

NO, YOU ARE NOT ALONE ;)

We are [WW Member Number] in the same state and it's getting worse as the days go by and we come close to the end of the month.

Leo

ps. any guestimate on the [WW Member Number]?

It occurs to me this might not even be possible. Because of various things that could go wrong, including the possibility that Google might decide some changes in the algo made things worse once they ran it, and they'd start over again. Thus, while Google may have target dates to do updates in the future, various factors might mean they'd miss those targets.

> I'm seeing different backlinks to yahoo on www4 wink

Of course they are different. You wouldn't expect them to be all alike? That would be spamming. ;)

The unofficial "is-this-the-update-thread?"-thread will be official as soon as at least two admins or three mods have asked the posters to calm down.

Btw. I expect the dance to begin in this weekend. Unless someone buys Ask/Teoma. Then Google will most likely postpone it to the beginning of next month like they did in december and february. :)

Too true, but that fact aside just think, what a great job for those Google engineers :) Tweak tweak tweak, test test test, tweak tweak tweak, test test test.

The perfect job for google dance fanatics?
