Our Googleguy in a post here once mentioned doing coding, so unless he lied he is a programmer. While possible, I'd be surprised if the suits that founded Google still dabble in coding at this stage. Not to mention, I find it hard to imagine one of the founders of Google wasting their time at WebmasterWorld. For a programmer it makes sense to be here. If the algo has serious problems, some people here are bound to spot it and post about it.
Now if I ask my sys admin to look into something, he's usually out eating a kebab or something, so this (wo)man holds sway over uber-techies, ergo he's a suit (even if he wears sneakers and a tshirt)
"When I met Sergey Brin, Lawrence Page, and Craig Silverstein I asked them to sign my copy of the first page of this report, which hangs on my wall. I wouldn't trade this for a copy of Sgt Peppers signed by all the Beatles. This paper, and what is known as PageRank, revolutionized the search industry."
My guess is that he got that signed at some meeting where all the 3 mentioned above were at, along with GoogleGuy. GoogleGuy may not want his name known publicly. Thus, that is how he identified himself and signed that.
Google Guy is Craig Silverstein
Why?
well it says " by Sergey Brin and Lawrence Page " with "& Craig Silverstein" after that. And thats why it says "& GoogleGuy"
Also this is a close up of the signatures:

There were only 3 people at that meeting. It must be one of them and thats my guess. Also Craig is Director of Technology at google, and to me that is a perfect position for someone who browses at webmasterworld. He has the means - he's a "director" high-ranking-do-what-he-wants type of guy, and the motive - to decide on technology to be used at google. I'm sure he gets heaps of ideas from webmaster world.
Exposed.
Let's hope this makes those making decisions which effect countless people's livelihoods take greater responsibility for their actions.
Clue: think, and think hard about who could possibly be designated to speak for Google.

Here is the story....
Last August when I went to the Search Engine Conference in San Jose I brought the first page to "The Anatomy of A Large-Scale Hypertextual Web Search Engine" hoping to get some autographs.
I was lucky eneough to run into Matt Cutts and I asked him if he could get Sergey and Lawerence to sign this paper for me....Later at the Google Dance Party, Matt handed me the paper with Sergey, Lawrence, Craig Silverstein, AND GoogleGuys autograph on it.
Matt then introduced me to Sergey and Lawrence which is where I got my pictures of them from....
I have never met GoogleGuy (at least that I know of)- but I do know one secret about googleguy ;) - can't give away all I know ;) - (I don't think it's matt if you were wondering - I also don't think it's the other person that people think it is...but in the end, I don't know myself). I'm just happy that GoogleGuy Graces the presence of this forum every now and then. I'll take that and be happy.
Yes, this is GoogleGuys autograph, but it was not signed while I was there, and I do hang it proudly on my wall:)
I don't mention GoogleGuy on that web page because only die-hard SEO's like those of us here at WebmasterWorld have any idea what "GoogleGuy" means ;)
I have no inside influence or contact, I'm only a fan.
See you all in Boston!

PS...on a personal note to someone...sorry charlie ;)
Every Saturday two guys (in their fifties I'd guess), semi-retired sorts, would run their little produce stand... haggling, negotiating, wheeling and dealing with the public over boxes of ripe tomatoes, fresh cabbages, new potatoes etc. Selling at weekend markets is all art and showmanship, and these guys were real pros.
Later I discovered that these two guys were actually big-time property developers, multi-millionaires, and after I knew who they were I occasionally saw them on TV for this-reason or that-reason.
They didn't come down to the markets for the money. They came down simply for the fun and excitement of "working on the shop floor". They just loved "selling" and mixing it up in what is generally regarded as a pretty "tough business". This is what they did to "relax"!
So it would not surprise me at all if the Google brass came down here to the shop floor ocassionally. It is one place where they can certainly experience the fun and excitement, and the art and showmanship of their business.
