i'd like to improve SE results for a flash website, starting with google. i have never done that before and plan to recorgnize the google indexing software (aka googlebot) via ip and then deliver text (xhtml) pages instead of flash swf files. i'd like to do this because a) google and other SEs can't really index flash files and b) the flash site itself is driven by XML files and it's really easy to create xhtml files out of them.
because i had never done that before i'd like to know if someone has got reall experience with that (does this really work etc.) and is willing to share. and is there maybe someone who can direct me to good sources of googlebot ips etc (my first shoot would be the awstats source code). this is not about the technical issue like how to do that with apache / php etc., i think i'm firm enough and/or can discuss this in the php forum.

Cloaking is cloaking at the end of the day. You say you want to use cloaking to improve se positions. I think that would be considered black hat. You would have to argue your case if you do get a penalty. You need to stay right on top of the ip's. If you miss one you risk getting caught out.
