Hi everyone, i'm new to the cloaking world but not seo, have been doing that a couple of years with mixed results.

I earn a living and love seo so am keen to learn more especially as I've recently seen a couple of my sites disappear down the serps replaced by many cloaked pages, some done more profesionally than others, the point is that the surfer is going to click on these pages anyway - the good, the bad and the ugly as that's all they can find for the first few pages of the results!:)

All is fair in love and war, but I guess i'm ready to learn something new and hopefully add to my indexed pages in a positive way.

I guess i'm asking does everyone here develop their own scripts for this, or are there some out in the market that are worth looking at. I've 2 in mind so far but seem to find lots of so called 'cloaking scripts' that don't appear to have been updated in donkeys years. I don't think anyone can put specifics on the board but any personal advice/recommendation would be appreciated.

My first aim would be to create doorway sites which either end up redirecting? (not sure if that is the rigth term) to my main sites or show an internal page that offers links to my main sites. ( I don't want my main sites getting banned but do have some lesser sites that could be played with)

The second would be to keep my text from competitors as I have seen snippets of my text in many places.

Many thanks in advance for any pointers/advice.

Hi JoTheLion,

I think the majority of cloakers use commerical cloaking scripts as opposed to "rolling their own". Commercial scripts offer several advantages, the best of which is automatic updating of search engine spider IP addresses. While we can't discuss individual scripts here, I think you'll find that the most popular scripts (which can be found in the ODP Cloaking section [dmoz.org]) are reliable and do what they say they do.

Your strategy of setting up cloaked pages on a separate domain is a sound one and I definitely recommend you make use of that. The better cloaking scripts will be able to show the human version of a page without a "redirection" -- the content of the page will be displayed without the URL changing in the browser.
