Cloacking to get the users only

Hi all,

For a site that I'm putting live now I'm letting the big SEs only be able to index the content (combiantion of UA and IP), I show all the content (as the user will see it, identical including css, images, links etc) to the SEs because I know is a good way to get trafic, but once in my site a do not allow the vistor to read all teh content at least they get a membership, so when it is not an spider I hide some pages that will be enabled only under suscription.. the content is all in the SE side also, but using the "NO CACHE" option I hope it will be protected from being copied (which I handle in some way also once my visitor is under subscription mode).

Bottom line, the question is : will this be considered bad cloaking also?

Let's say that this forum (I don't know if they do, is just an example) uses cloacking to let the SEs to index the supporters topics.. but the same way using "no cache" meta tag (they do this even for the general public topics) the protect that content.. you can access that content only if you are a full member, but the content in self is working to get more traffic, but it can not be seen using the SEs cache either.

Am I in risk here?

Thanks.

This issue has been debated here off and on for quite awhile. I don't think any definitive answers are to be had (i.e. Googleguy never weighed in with an opinion), but the general consensus is that since major sites get away with such behaviour, smaller sites can do it, too.

Thanks volatilegx,

Yes, I have read some of these topics.. unfortunatly the most of them are closes so I could not put my comment on them, that why started a new one. But what you said is what I wanted to confirm... how afraid should I be of feeding the boots and then restricting the users .. and if this will get me banned or not.

I'm also sure nobody will say the last word about this, but knowing that other do it without issue mekes me sleep better ;-).

You know, the last thing that you want out of the index is you site showing a grey PR :-) too.

Thanks again
