Is this a cloaked page?

#2 in AV is pretty impressive.

The only thing that I understand about the topic for this forum is the underlying principle, so this may seem like an overly simple question for the regulars here. (I also know that Air wears night goggles to go elk spotting on the net, but that is off topic.)

Just did this search to check effects of recent AV update.
[altavista.com...]

The #2 spot is occupied by a company that
a) hasn't got the keyword anywhere on its page
b) has a title different from what AV is showing.

Has this page been cloaked? The content of the site is totally irrelevant to the search. Or is ut simply so, that the page once had the content and now hasn't.

Take a look at the source code using the view - source from the top menu, not the right mouse button. You'll see that he has used a 100% frameset to load the "visible" page in.

I did, but I still can't spot the keyword anywhere. Not in title, not in the frameset. How on earth could this end up in the #2 spot?

Good point. Do you think it's possible that since there is virtually no text to spider that AV is ranking it based on the fact that it's in the url alone?
After the Monday AV reindex this week I've noticed that a lot of the top ranking sites for a few of my target keywords have very little if any text, but do have the phrase in the url. Most, however, do have it in the title and meta's as well, although I don't think AV looks at the metas anymore.

I have alerted the people discussing the value of url in title at
[webmasterworld.com...]
to see if they have any ideas about this. It is a mystery to me.

rockintom: As to AV and meta, I think the concensus is that AV doesn't look at meta, perhaps not even bothering to index it.

Mike: I have to confess that I simply don't understand your post above. Could you possibly explain that for us dummies? Use one syllable words, two at the most.

Strange. Here's the code for www.fcsweden.com
AV gone crazy or SEO at a level hitherto unknown in this country?

<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE>Centrinity AB</TITLE>
</HEAD>

<FRAMESET Frameborder="0" COLS="100%" ROWS="85, 100%">
<FRAME topmargin="0" SRC="/top.html" NAME="toppen" SCROLLING="0">
<FRAMESET Frameborder="0" COLS="130,300, 100%" ROWS="100%">
<FRAME SRC="/bottomleft.html" NAME="bl" FRAMEBORDER="0" SCROLLING="0" >
<FRAME SRC="Conferences/Nyheter/" NAME="bm" FRAMEBORDER="0" SCROLLING="0" >
<FRAME SRC="http://www.centrinity.com/aboutus/logo.html" NAME="br" FRAMEBORDER="0" SCROLLING="0" >
</FRAMESET>
</FRAMESET>
</HTML>

Mystery solved. Thanks Mike for pointing out, what I should have seen.

fcsweden.se is listed #2 in AV for kwd "sweden" because at one time their home page had the magic word in the right numbers and in the right places (where, we shall never know). But: They merged with Centrinity during the summer (found the press release) and so the old address was equipped with a server re-direct to new address and new content at www.centrinity.se

AV:s update is not so up to date as we have been led to believe. (I should have guessed it - the server occupying spot #30 in this search was disconnected on Jun 30.)

So: no cloaking, just AV being out of date. Thanks guys.
