Can I determine the country of a visitor by IP alone?

I run a website which is part of the Amazon associates program. I am based in the UK, but am part of the .com associates program because the majority of my traffic comes from the US.

I am thinking that if I could determine the country of a visitor to my site, I could serve up a link to amazon.co.uk to my UK visitors instead, and increase my income from the scheme (because a US visitor isn't going to order from .co.uk and a UK visitor from .com).

From the IP of a visitor, how can I determine the country?

Apologies if this is the wrong forum - not sure if it comes under cloaking or server-side scripting.

TIA, Robin

you can do this, as each country, and I believe region, has a certain number of IP #'s designated to them. The list is floating around here......do a searhc using the tool in the top left corner.

Remember that you can tell the country of the server but not the visitor. For example we use attglobal to access the internet sometimes from many countries. Even though we are in Malaysia Thailand or Singapore etc etc, the hits will show we used a computer in US. This happens with many services etc.

Free demo to lookup country by IP address is available here. It is very useful for me.
