TIFF images in browser

Tiff Images give me the missing image icon, yet when I save the target to my desktop I can see the image in the microsoft image viewer.

Isn't there a way to automatically allow tiffs to be visible in the browser just like PDF, etc.?

I believe you need a plug-in for this.
