Vibrating content in Internet Exploder

Rapid alternating rendering of content in a div in IE5.5

Recently came across this little wonder.

I was resizing a horizontally and vertically centered div in IE 5.5 and at a narrow width, the entire right hand scrolling-div column inside the centered div started alternating "vibrating" between two states, almost as if the rendering engine couldn't make up it's mind about how to display the object. You can create vibrating elements by creating :hover states that move the hovered object out from under the cursor (its kinda fun, actually, in a twisted way) - it will then snap back and out again. This is the first time I have seen similar behavior with no hovering or anything - the cursor wasn't even in the window.

Has anyone else seen this phenomenon?

I've seen it - have no idea how to fix it though. I think I eventually got it worked out, but this was so long ago that I couldn't begin to remember the details . . .

Internet Exploder, lol, that's one I haven't heard before!

I get this with Opera on one site when hovering near a div that causes another div to appear below, creating a scrollbar. The page vibrates like mad!
