w3 error on valid page

"No Referer header found!"

my page validates as xhtml transitional 1.0. i copied the html code for the little w3 icon to put on my page, but when that is clicked i get:

No Referer header found!
"You have requested we check the referring page, but your browser did not send the HTTP "Referer" header field. ...."

this occurs in ff, ie and opera ...

Are you using Norton Internet Security? That removes the referrer details when requesting pages.

It has nothing to do with whether or not your page is valid - it is just that the tool you are using depends on the referrer string being present to be able to read the page.

id never use norton products. the only security i have is the stuff that came with sp2

so all sp2 users who clicks on the icon will get an error message, great!

If you're worried about it, change the link from:

[validator.w3.org...]

to

[validator.w3.org...]

Obviously replacing example.com with your site address.
