How to stop auto-address complete?

I'm sure that Safari (1.0) wasn't doing auto-complete of web addresses recently but it sure is now.

I want to turn this off but can't find where the option is located - it doesn't appear to be in preferences...

Could someone point me in the right direction here?

TIA

Here's what my research turned up:

The straightforward way is to go into Safari preferences and uncheck all the "Autofill" options. You may also need to clear cache and history.

However, some people may also want a partial solution - here's what I mean.

Safari's autocomplete works from two sources - your bookmarks and the history of your current session. These steps will stop autofill/autocomplete just from from your bookmarks, and retain current session autofill, which can be handy:

1. Choose 'Clear History' from the end of the History menu.
2. Quit Safari.
3. In the Finder, locate the history.plist file in ~/Library/Safari/.
4. Use 'Get Info' to lock the file.

Now Safari's autocomplete will still use the history of your current session, but that will always be cleared when you Quit.

tedster, thanks.

Have cleared history & cache but that has never made any difference. No autofills are in use - nor have been.

Have now followed your instructions and locked history.plist but still Safari is autocompleting urls (even those not bookmarked) in the address bar.

Any other work arounds?

Thanks again for your efforts - much appreciated.
