I've written a simple php messenger script which is refreshing the "messages iframe" using a meta refresh. Is there a way of avoiding the clicking sound. Cheers

Turn off your sounds (?)
Right click on your speaker icon. Adjust audio properties. Sounds.
People in my office used to drive me nuts with that. I fixed it for them. :D
