Really complete and authoritative stats cost really complete and authoritative money -- like 3 to 5 figures anually.

But occasionally the big names in market research do let some tidbits dribble out to various free sources. They do this mostly as a marketing tactic, but with some subscriptions to an assortment of marketing newsletters I can usually pick up a good bit of information.
