i was surprised to notice that the third highest type of browser used to view my website is AOL 4.x

I have re-designed my site in favour of css positioning - but im not keen to upload it until i have seen it in a few of the older browsers... aol 4.x, netscape 4.x, MSIE 5 etc

im sure many others have come across this problem - how do you test your pages in old browsers?

Ive done a search but nothing has surfaced that answers this question... and it seems you can only download/install the latest versions (which doesnt help in this case)

thanks :)

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, sniffer.

The place to find old browers is in the evolt Browser Archive [browsers.evolt.org], although AOL's browsers don't seem to be there.

There's been a fairly lengthy thread on WebmasterWorld you'll find useful on installing multiple copies of Internet Explorer on one PC [webmasterworld.com]

I would also suggest digging a bit deeper into that AOL4.0 browser figure. I can hardly believe it represents real human visitors in any volume whatsoever. Check the IP address etc and see if someone isn't using a bot and spoofing the user agent.

The idea of supporting AOL 4 gives me the chills!

Don't even mention it! :) Let's see... an old version of IE, tweaked by AOL to be like none other... Sheesh! That's a nightmare.

AOL versions tended to run about 1 version back compared to IE, so AOL 4 would be a tweaked up version of IE 3. That's why I encourage you to check the logs again. I just don't buy that as a real user agent.

So, AOL 9 is...? ;)

I agree. Check the logs again... Especially the OS-AOL combination. Even IF someone is using AOL 4, then they can impossibly run anything newer than Windows 95 :)
