I just downloaded the demo version of Jaws so I can test my site with a screen reader. I'm fairly pleased with the results, but I also browsed one or two other sites - not designed to be accessible...

If anyone still needs convincing that table-less xhtml/css is the way to go for page design, they should download the Jaws demo and see for themselves how frustrating it is to listen to 2 minutes of presentaton to get to 20 seconds of content.

It's amazing how something as simple as accesskey's on links can drastically improve the surfing experience for people using screen readers.

(34 mb). Like me, you can read accessibility articles until the cows home, but you won't appreciate what accessibility really means until you try surfing a site using Jaws with your eyes shut. It's a very informative experience and well worth your time.

Welcome to Webmaster World!

That is an excellent point, one I wish more developers would employ. I started testing my sites in Jaws a couple months back, and it put accessibility in a completely new perspective.

What a shame this board doesn't have "sticky" threads.

This should be one.

That's what the forum library is for... Plus, you can always flag the post yourself :)
